Damn Donna you really hit a nerve with this question. Lots of people answered your question. Dr Phils rates are probably out of network with your insurance and unless you have a movie star salary, you probably wont get to see him. You might be able to get better advice from John or Sister Margaret...

I have never seen Dr. Phil take on a couple where the man was right in the end. He tends to promote the women, at the expense of the men. If he does have something negative to say about the woman on his show, it is usually, "why are you so blind to what a dumb guy you have? Why are you still with him?"

I think Dr. Phil needs to realize, and quickly, that it takes two, that both sides usually are to blame in most fights, and that real relationships are built on trust, love, and compromise.

If you need to visit someone to save or work on a relationship, try a local counselor first. Going to see Dr. Phil is like having a fight with your parents and going on Springer. It solves nothing for you, it just makes your problem public.

He is highly acclaimed, because of his credentials, in conjunction with the fact that he says everything that is "acceptable", "politically correct" and "morally sound" (by todays cultural standards).
He portrays a picture perfect "image" of what stands for a "conservative" American culture.
It gives many people something to stand up and clap for.
That's how it is in this world, as long as everything "looks" good, then by all means it's what's best for us, regardless if it's the best way or not.

I think that he is an entertainer who has made a career of advising others based on some knowledge he has aquired as a psychologist. Generally, he appears to make some sort of sense and I wouldn't disagree with much of his advice, but I find that these shows capitalize on the misfortune of others. I just don't see this as entertaining.

I know it's popular not to like him, but when it comes to talking to people with relationship problems, he knows how to ask the best questions (much more important than the answers). Beyond relationships, I haven't watched him enough to have an opinion.

I think he is pathetic. His license should be revoked. He get people with serious problems, put them in his show, and "try" to help them in one hour in the name of money and advertising. He is actually damaging those people. Those people with problems are in need of a serious professional and need weekly guidance, not his one hour help. Money and Advertising that is all it is his show.

You are better off seeing "Dr. Feel" the Sesame Street muppet.
