Which Noise-cancelling headphone is the best for sleeping?

I live with morlocks (loud idiots) and I need to have good sleep, do you personally have owned Noise-cancelling headphone? and does it work well for you? can you suggest me one of those? I would like to get the best ones possible, money is not an issue, I just need the best for me.,

Headphones are not a good idea for sleeping. Instead what you want is a white noise machine/sound conditioner. Here is what I have:

I definitely recommend this one, but at least be sure you don't get one that plays a recording--there is a pattern to the sound loop and soon focusing on that will keep you awake.

No sound conditioner covers up all noise. In fact that isn't the point. What it does is help you not to FOCUS on any particular sound. You hear it, but you can tune it out. It may take a few days to get used to, but especially once you fall asleep the noises no longer wake you up.

I used to suffer from SEVERE sleep deprivation, from a combination of loud neighbors and my husband's serious snoring. With this, or sometimes a combination of this and earplugs, I have not woken up from noise at all. (BTW, for earplugs I recommend the Howard Leight orangey bullet-shaped ones that flare at the end. Comfortable and highest rated protection. I can recommend http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net to order those and the white noise machine together. Good price,and I've dealt with them a few times with very happy results).

Noise cancelling headphones do not cancel out all noise - mostly low frequency noise. However a good pair of over the ear units would probably reduce the overall sound level and that may be enough for you.

Make sure whatever headphones you buy you have a good return policy.

Bose is generally awful. Their company spends way more on marketing than actual product research/development.

I'm going to assume you've tried earplugs. But for headphones the site www.headphone.com has extremely good reviews on all sorts of headphones, including noise cancelling ones.

You may not need an expensive pair of active noise cancelling headphones, a quality pair of "sealed" headphones that cover your ears completely with a headphone amplifier could do the trick.
