My husband and I are in Austin Tx and was wanting to find a nice but still family friendly restaurant to eat at for Valentines Day...we are looking for a good steak house or home style cooking that is still nice.

Circa 1900
1906 San Pedro in Monte Vista
PHONE: 210-731-9933

Circa 1900 atmosphere!

Dining under the oil-painted gaze of Rubenesque ladies and naked cherubs, the antique-rich decor of Circa 1900 will have you wondering if you inadvertently stepped into the pages of a romance novel; but the menu will bring you back to a most delectable reality.

Dishes such as wild forest mushroom grilled chicken and Atlantic salmon with shrimp are delightfully seasoned, skillfully prepared, and served with a formal yet friendly flourish.

A separate club room features a large dance floor and live music, including some jazz, Thursday-Saturday.

Finn & Porter

Austin, Texas 78701 USA
Cross Street: Neches St.
Neighborhood: Downtown
Phone Number: 512-482-8000
Dress Code: Dressy
Hours of Operation: Dinner nightly
Atmosphere: Romantic.
Average Price or Price Range*: $$$$ (under $75).
Cuisine: Seafood. Steakhouse. Sushi.

Description: Executive chef Christopher Bauer is producing food good enough to make this a fine-dining destination for locals as well as traveling foodies. The porterhouse steaks have solidified Finn & Porter's reputation, being some of the best Austin has to offer thanks to 28 days of aging and the kitchen’s expert grilling. Imaginative seafood specialties are also top quality, including the plush vanilla bean butter-poached lobster, artistically arranged on mushroom risotto; sweet and fresh hamachi sushi; and nori-wrapped tuna with white asparagus. When we can't decide on dessert, the trio of cappuccino, vanilla and Grand Marnier crème brûlée satisfies--bursting with flavor but never too heavy. Expect a dramatic atmosphere of bright colors and handsome wood and leather accents, a classic winding staircase with a gorgeous sky-high open ceiling, and lots of action from the various bar areas. (Yes, it can get noisy but that’s part of the fun.)

Fonda San Miguel
2330 W. North Loop Blvd.
Austin, Texas 78756 USA
Cross Street: Burnet Rd.
Neighborhood: North

Dress Code: Upscale casual
Hours of Operation: Dinner Mon.-Sat., Brunch Sun.
Atmosphere: Kid Friendly. Romantic.
Average Price or Price Range*: $$$ (under $50).
Cuisine: Mexican.

Description: In this hacienda lush with towering foliage, you'll instantly feel whisked away on a south-of-the-border vacation. Don't peek into the kitchen, though, as its gleaming professional appliances might evaporate the 19th-century hacienda fantasy. The food, on the other hand, keeps the spirit of old Mexico vital. Chef and co-founder Miguel Ravado has always championed classical Mexican cooking. Under his supervision the restaurant remains a bastion of authentic Mexican regional cuisine, featuring fresh local seafood and Niman Ranch meats. The mandatory appetizer is the famous queso fundido made with white cheddar cheese, grilled poblano chiles, onions, tomatoes and a hint of cream. We like such regional stalwarts as the dark, deep-flavored mole poblano, with a sauce perfectly balanced by toasted chiles and unsweetened chocolate. Other menu highlights include garlicky camarones al mojo de ajo, traditional Yucatan-style baked pork, and the elegant sopa de elote (corn soup with cheese). Looking for the best Mexican brunch in Texas? Fonda San Miguel earns a place on the list with a lavish weekend spread, accompanied by polished service and exceptional margaritas.

Jeffrey's

Phone Number: 512-477-5584
Dress Code: Upscale casual
Hours of Operation: Dinner nightly
Atmosphere: Romantic.
Average Price or Price Range*: $$$$ (under $75).
Cuisine: Contemporary. Southwestern.

Description: Thanks to longtime nationally recognized executive chef David Garrido, Jeffrey's endures as a top choice for fine dining in Austin. Garrido has evolved with the times and still entices guests with a daily changing menu, which might include homemade wild mushroom ravioli and chive cream sauce, summer squash soup or venison tenderloin. Visiting celebrities, politicos and local movers-and-shakers are still spellbound by the famed crispy fried oysters on thin yucca chips with habanero aioli or the Beluga caviar on lemon blini. Dinner sparkles with innovative touches. We've enjoyed the tall crab cakes on a salad of mixed greens and pineapple vinaigrette; duck in porcini sauce; osso buco with blue potatoes; and yellowfin tuna with roasted pepper salsa. The skillfully garnished plates are just as appealing as the sophisticated art-filled surroundings. To experience Jeffrey's outstanding cuisine to the fullest, we recommend the four- or five-course tasting menu. The extensive wine list ranks among the world's most outstanding.

Description: Escape to this charming Hill Country cottage near Lake Austin to feast on an innovative menu of Texas specialties: venison, wild boar, quail and pheasant, to name a few. If the rattlesnake cake appetizer pushes the envelope too far, we suggest you start off instead with the duck Diablo (nuggets of tender duck rolled in a supple tortilla with jicama, jalapeños and figs) for an explosion of sweet and savory heat. Classic dishes such as Black Angus steak, juicy grilled lamb chops, elk enchiladas, and the signature crunchy ruby rainbow trout are always crowd-pleasers. Grilled king salmon with dill gnocchi is another beautiful dish. For the ultimate carnivore's feast, opt for Hudson's mixed grill.
