It would be like a Christian fighting a cartoon character. You may not want your children to believe in a cartoon character but you certainly dont fight the character do you? BB

Yep... some think that.

It's not a bad question, but the answers here show how shallow is the thinking of most "atheists" today. You believe you are not fighting against God, obviously - but whether you actually are has absolutely nothing to do with what you think. That's a matter of fact, and all the posturing and bravado in the world won't change that.

If one goes into it with Christian presuppositions, then one would say "yes, you are fighting against God whether you know it or believe it or not." If you go in with atheist presuppositions you will say "no, I am trying to get people to believe the truth." It's sad that most atheists - or the neo-atheist trolls we get here on Y!A anyway - are seemingly unable to think through their own philosophy so little.

Lol. If they are pre-born then they aren't babies. Just like when women have their periods and men..well do their thing. You say let me have my faith. When a vast majority of you are blocking science from letting it do its thing. Stem cell research could cure diabetes, Alzheimer, anyone with a seriously injured limb, broken spinal cords, and so on. I have a question for you. Do multi-celled organisms have souls? Or even single celled? If you answer no then you can not disagree with abortion. If you say yes then I am no longer talking directly to you. For those of us who you call neo-atheists, we are trying to educate and show you facts where you have been misled. The reason we have become so aggressive is because of people "like" you are the reason that we have Bush for president. The time has come where we need to look at peoples belief in some bronze age religion and do criticize it. Would you want someone who believed the world was flat to vote or have say so in your legislation? Or that dinosaurs and humans existed at the same time? No. This is when you need to start questioning people's beliefs and the reason they believe them. If someone said they believed that there was a diamond buried in their back yard even though no one has seen it, and that this diamond gave them morals and a reason for living, would you think they were delusional? Of course. Especially if they said that diamond was the creator of the universe and they have a special, personal, relationship with it. Now I hope this has helped you better understand why we "neo-atheists" are being the way we are. It is the responsibility to the next generation to be this way. Not everyone needs to be or can be. But for those of us with the abilities and the desire to do so, we need to step up and take responsibility.
Thank you

Allahu Akbar just means God is great. Just because some terrorists use it doesn't mean it is a bad phrase. It is the Western media that is portraying it to be a bad phrase. Many muslims say that in their daily rituals. They don't go around committing dastardly deeds. Many Christians used the name of Jesus to commit dastardly deeds. The whole Inquisition and the Salem Witch Trials etc. were in the name of Jesus. Even in the 1950s many atheists were hounded by the Christians and labeled communists and traitors. Being an atheist, I would say that the phrase "In God We Trust" doesn't bother me one bit. There are more important things to worry about in this world. For all I care, the bill can say "Hare Rama, hare Krishna". :)

I'm an atheist. I wouldn't necessarily say fight against God but challenge what the Christian belief system is. I have a problem with the arrogance that is Christianity. I don't accept Jesus Christ as a lord and saviour but neither do Jewish people. So are all atheists and Jews going for not accepting their beliefs?

Atheists do not actively fight against God. However, it is stated somewhere in the gospel of Luke: He who is not with Me is against Me. And if you are atheist, ask yourself what you lose by believing in God. You do not have to become a monk but sometimes it is comforting to know that when you have done all you can there is someone stronger than yourself you can look to in times of trouble and stress, both of which will always be every persons companion throughout their life.

They can't get past the idea that atheists do not even admit the existence of god(s). At least they've given up burning us at the stake!

As they are fighting us (and every religious book has something to say about atheists and apostates - and its never let and let live -) they assume we are fighting them and their bronze age god, when in fact all we are doing is advancing science and making the world safe for secularism.

Religion has been the root of more violence and destruction (of what Christians refer to as God's creation) than atheism ever was or could be.

If you will, conduct a short threat assessment in the modern world from religious groups vs. atheist groups. Nobody is afraid to degrade an atheist, because they are rational. Be careful what you say about religion though... people will kill you over that stuff.

And it doesn't matter if you think you are a "peace-loving" follower. If you are a member of any organized religion, then you form the foundation from which so-called "fundamentalists" spring.

No, I do not believe that. I believe just what the word atheist means : without God. I believe that they should not insult Christians and tell them there is no God, though. I am a Christian, and I do not put down atheists. I just present the plan of salvation and let them do what they will with the info.

I don't see it that way. The fight I see is that the more obnoxious Atheists feel it's their duty to get in circular no-win arguments with Christians to "prove" that God doesn't exist.
Most Atheists I know are not this way but keep to themselves and let others believe whateverthehell they want.

I'll answer this question with a question.

How can you fight against something you don't believe exists?
Atheism -- a. Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods.
b. The doctrine that there is no God or gods.
