Hello -
I am completely foreign to winter driving and abit nervous; but, I have to see my mother who is very sick. Leaving from LA to PHX then next day PHX to ABQ. I did the drive via Flagstaff a few weeks ago and got hit with a snow storm. Now I'm thinking of going via the 60 (Globe, Show Low, Pie Town) meeting the 25 in Socorro and heading up to ABQ? I have some business in PHX, but money is so tight that I cant do the flights that would make this so easier - but, I really do need to see my Mom. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks in advance ...

60 won't bypass snow, if there is snow on Flagstaff. Check the interstate forecast on weather.com to see if there is a storm coming in on the day you plan to pass through Flagstaff. If there isn't, just go. If there is, and you are uncomfortable in the snow, you may have to stay in a motel for a day. The Arizona DOT is great, and they will have the roads clear as soon as humanly possible, and will also be spreading sand while it is snowing to increase traction.

It is a long way out of your way, but you could stay on I-10 to Las Cruces, NM and take I-25 north into Albuquerque.

Raising dogs is just that devisive of an issue. There are so many different opinions out there about what is appropriate and what isn't. My dog eats almost anything I eat--some people have a real problem with that, but as long as she stays a healthy weight (like she has for the past five years) I'm not changing it. A lot of the thumbs about training may also come from dog owners who have never had a really headstrong dog. I haven't had one myself, and it made me wonder what kind of a person needs a professional trainer to get a dog to behave. Then I met a difficult dog and could understand how the owner had so much trouble with her, and that someone less dog-savvy than him would want professional help. And the 'dog psycology' folks will never agree with the 'respect, reward, and punishment' crowd. No one teaches paper training anymore--it's all about crates nowadays--and I've used paper training and never a crate for every pup I've had. I guess all I'm saying is that there is more than one way to do it right, and people get really opinionated that their way is the best way.
