I just got a 6 month old cat from a rescue centre. The woman i got her off told me she had been wormed already, but everyday since ive had her ive since worms crawling out of her backside ( not a nice sight!). I also used strong hold on her, but the worms keep coming out. I was told by my vet that they come out to die, so the treatment is working, does this sound right? im wondering how long it'll be before they stop coming out?... also, my cat is having to have eye drops at the moment and its a nightmare to get them in, does anyone have any advice on the best way to do it?
Thanks v.much for your help

yeah when you worm them you'll see them come out in their poo
if after a week puss is still poorly - eating loads, sickness/diarrhoea then take her back to the vet
just try & get someone else to hold her paws to put the drops in

If you are trying to put the drops in on your own, then it can be a difficult job :) My 'spare cat' which I look after, had eye trouble when I took him on. If you can get someone to help, then that is the best answer, because the cat will build trust in you. Put the cat on a table and have someone hold it confidently. Put the drops in from the nose side of the eye, while parting the eyelids.
If it really is too difficult, then you can take the cat to the PETS AT HOME and the nurses will do it for you for free.
As for the worms, then make sue that they are treated for all the different varieties of worm, as there are a few. The worms will be passed out, but they shouldnt be wriggling from what I understand, as they should be dead. If the cat licks a worm back in, then surely it will be reinfested! I should check this out with the Nurses too.

Are the worms white? How long ago was he/she dewormed? Has the cat been outside feasting at all lately because after a dewormer if they eat something with worms they can get them again. If this hasn't happened then the vet must be right but i've had my cats dewormed and they didn't keep coming out the backside.
Good luck with the eye drops. Have someone help you hold the cats body/ head well you hold the eye open and put in the drops. Cats are pretty independent and thats not going to be easy!! Good luck!!

I'm not sure about the worm problem but the cat can be wrapped in a towel so it is easier to hold onto. If you are putting liquid drops in, then just put the drop at the corner of the eye....it should go in even if the cat closes its eye. If the drops are like an ointment, put a small amount at the top of the eyelid and then gently close and open the cats eye a few times with your fingers. Good luck!

yes what your seeing is normal with the worms it takes around two weeks to be totally clear

eye drops lol
wrap a towl around the cat holding all four paws in get some one to put eye drops in eyes while your holding the head still at the same time
dont worry about the distress thing you will find it's you not the cat that gets distressed
the cat just wants to get away just like any animal they know they have to have it done but dont like it

my cat hates it and she has terrible runny eyes and has done since she was a kitten she's 12 now

Strongid is one of several products containing pyrantel, which is used to kill roundworms - the ones that look like spaghetti. If she only got one deworming with pyrantel, it should be repeated.

What you've described sounds like tapeworm - the little things that look like rice grains are segments that break off the worm. They're not coming out to die, they're coming out to reproduce; those segments are full of worm eggs. You need something with praziquantel to treat tapeworm because pyrantel won't kill them. Look for Tape Worm Tabs (yes, that's the brand name) or D-Worm praziquantel tablets (they make other products under the same brand so check the package); both are available at pet stores or catalogs without prescription. Also, make sure to get rid of any fleas and rodents (other than caged pets) in the house because they can serve as tapeworm carriers.
