independent tattoo artists are paid according to the:
amt. of time spent performing the tattoo
how big the tattoo is
whether or not the artist had to design the tattoo
location of the tattoo (private parts are always more expensive)

tattoo artists who work for someone else's business are paid by the hour. the business collects the full payment for the tattoo. all tips are kept by the artist.

Yes.

How large a tattoo is and how much detail work there is will determine around how long an artist will spend working on it, possibly through multiple sittings. A tiny 3/4 inch tattoo will cost a lot less than a six-inch tattoo, which will cost much less than a full back peice. So how many hours the artist will work on a peice does depend in large part of how big the tattoo is.

Depends where you work. The person who owns the shop can charge you for the chair and what ever customers you get is the money you get for that day. And you put the price on the tattoos other shops can set the price on the tattoo sizes and get a cut from every tattoo that you do that day. or by the hour

They get paid by the tattoo, depends on the size, how many colors, and the time involved. They usually rent a chair in the shop so out of that money they must pay a price to the shop owner. A good tattoo is not cheap. For example I have a 4x6 portrait of my husband on my leg and cost 250.00 it done using only black , to look like a black and white photo.

Most tattooists get paid by the tattoo. The smaller=the cheaper. Not to many that i know of charge by the hour like a car shop.

different artists work different ways. my artist charges by the hour. some shops charge by the individual piece and by it's difficulty. i think i like the hourly rate the best tho because my artist is pretty fast and i feel like i get my money's worth out of the time he spends on my tattoos. also artists are paid by their talent. some artists may charge $50 an hour and others upwards of $250 an hour or more. (yes, seriously $250 an HOUR) that kind of talent is something that most artists will never have and for the ones who do have it... they are paid well for it.

Price depends on size of tattoo, length of time it will take, area being tattooed, and the color that needs to be put into the tattoo. Also, if it's a cover-up or original, if it's something already in their portfolio or something you and your tat artist makes up. Lots goes into the price.

They are paid on the basis on hours or the colors they used.

All three. Most will have an hourly charge, but will quote a price for a piece. It could also depend on the artist.
