It is good. It has been around since the early days of electricity. Before electricity, mills were built right at the river with a water wheel to make the power and belts to drive the machinery directly.

Modern dams are big and can cause some environmental damage, but they do not emit any green house gasses and the power source is totally renewable. It would be considered alternative energy technology if it hadn't been invented so long ago!

To a certain extent this will depend on your definition of good. It is certainly true that hydroelectric power is generated without producing many air pollutants or CO2 (other than those emissions associated with the construction of the generating facility). But, it is not environmentally neutral since streams must be dammed and land flooded and this disrupts various habitates.

Its a great idea . As it uses a renewable source of power ( i.e. water)
no resources are extinguished as in case of thermal power generated by coal which also causes pollution . Also, the water used for generation can be used for domestic and industrial use and is not wasted.

Anything is better than nuclear or coal burning.Hydro is the cleanest power source we have.Hydro electric is when the water pressure from above a dam forces down and turns a turbine that makes electricity.
Nuclear heats water to form pressure to turn turbines as well as burning coal to create steam pressure.
No pollution with hydro.

Good idea because of global warming.

Hydro has some environmental problems, but they're nothing compared to global warming. The same is true of nuclear power. We need to do it right, but we need to do it.
