I agree. If God had to have a gender though, I'd be more inclined to see God as female a bearer, giver and sustainer of life.

Why need a gender in the first place?

The very question shows that god is fashioned in the image of mankind, not the other way around.

The Semitic languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic) do not have an equivalent to the gender-neutral English word "it". Everything in these languages is a either a "he" or a "She".

If there was such a gender-neutral word, maybe God would refer to himself as "it". But if you read the Torah, Bible, or Quran, God refers to himself as either "he" or "we". "We" being the royal plural that queen Elizabeth uses when she says something like, "We would like to have a glass of water now."

Depends which myth you believe. By the way, the word 'he' can be gender neutral if the gender is unknown or unimportant. Since the rise of feminism in the '70s it has become less popular to use it in this way, but most religions predate feminism.

Well, God is gender-free, and "it" is the closest thing the English language has for a gender-free pronoun. However, "it" generally refers to inanimate objects that are less than human. Since God is greater than human, some might find it disrespectful to call God "it."

Some churches, including my own, do not use any pronoun for God but simply repeat "God." For instance, "Give thanks to our God, for He is good. His mercy endures forever" becomes "Give thanks to our God, for God is good. God's mercy endures forever."

I wouldn't use the word "it," but I do believe God has no gender. However, it is easy to slip into the "He" terminology, mainly because it's what I was taught for so many years.

42% of all adults (but only 37% of men) thinks God is male. I think that is interesting.

Personally, I don't believe one exists.

Jesus descibes Him as His Father. Man was the first to be created in His Image and likeness.
