I have run the speaker cable and in one of the runs, I accidentally put a staple through one of the speaker wires. Should I replace the whole run, or will electricians tape do the job.

If the wire is going inwall...replace the run. Not worth it to chance a short or a corrosion introduction point in a cable that is closed up behind drywall. Also, make ABSOLUTELY certain the cable is CL-2 or CL-3 fire code rated. If it is not, pull it all and replace it with cable that is. Otherwise...should (god forbid) there ever be a fire...you just lost your insurance coverage.

This is one reason I spec Smurf tube for every run. It is a pain...but if you ever need to re-pull, life is easy.

If both halves of the wire were sliced, you run the risk of having the wires cross, meaning a short circuit. If you want to do the quick fix, split the cable in the middle and put electrical tape over each half of the wire. To me, speaker cable is one of the better investments in a home theater system, and it's cheap enough to replace.

Another thing to remember is get speaker stands for the speakers. You will never know when the sumppump will go. I had my speakers stored at my parents and got them a week before the basement flooded

tape will be a quick fix. as you know, anything worth doing, is worth doing right. if it were me, i would replace the entire wire, because the repair could eventually short out.
