I am not sure, but I am guessing that it really isn't a "lump," but rather your throat muscles contracting, making it feel like there is something in it.

Think about how the other muscles in your body react to different emotionally-charged situations: When a person is afraid, their back and arm muscles tense up (the muscles contract).

When a person is happy and laughing, their stomach muscles tense up (contract) to form a laugh.

I believe that it is the same when crying--your body is producing a natural reaction to the emotional stimuli and is causing the muscles in your throat to contract (making it feel like a lump).

Hope this helps, even though it's just a guess :)

It means you are choked with emotion that you are not able to breathe properly. It feels like there is a lump in your throat. It is the beginning of breaking down into actual tears. But if you are actually referring to a sore throat, then may be I can help you find some home remedies for it. Try this web link - http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
