I was a freshman in High School and put makeup on before I went to school. My mother walked in my home room with a wet face cloth and proceeded to wash my face in front of everyone. She also told me that only street walkers wore makeup.
It took a long time to get over it. My friends felt bad for me. I only had on mascara and lip gloss. I told everyone that my mother was mentally unstable and goes off the deep end of paranoia. (She is very sane, just very strict) People are more understanding they you realize.

Oh boy. My dad has bipolar mood disorder (manic depressive), a mental illness that GREATLY affects his behavior. He was in a manic swing when he attended a club awards pancake breakfast with me in high school. His behavior was beyond irrational-- he was babbling about how our club should contact the General in charge of Edwards Air Force Base to see if we could "borrow" an airplane to take us on a field trip; he started making crude jokes; he got offended at what one of the teachers at the breakfast was saying, and finally got in a rage and demanded that I leave immediately and come with him. I thought I was going to die.
My mom had forbidden me to tell anyone about my dad's mental illness, so there wasn't anything I could say when I went to school after this debacle. But there were some people who came to me and told me that they could see my dad had some kind of problem, and it was obviously not my fault that he was behaving like a jerk.
There were people who made fun of me, but the people who mattered were the ones who understood. I think that's what helped me to get through the awfulness-- knowing there were good people who understood how badly I hurt, and that the other kind of people didn't matter.

To tell the truth, my parents are the best parents anyone could ever have. They don't yell at me in public, nor do they undress me in front of the stage
