A physical body really serves no purpose in Christian mythology or theology or philosophy or whatever you want to call it.

He did that with Adam & Eve. After desiring to have knowledge of Good and evil, they were "Clothed in the skin of animal" and put out of the Garden of eden. For why read romans 1-19/21. The human body is a space suit with built in computer, needed to function in this earth environment. Once experiences of life have wrought the human personality, intellect and brain unto "the perfect Man" God will express his perfect vision of himself through this perfect man.

This one's good.

The fact is that the earth was our home from the very beginning and it will always be. In that often-quoted scripture, The Psalmist never said the "meek shall inherit the HEAVEN", he said the meek shall inherit the earth.

Psalm 115:16 says it plainly: "As regards the heavens, to Jehovah the heavens belong. But the earth he has given to the sons of men."

PS: If you have issue with the use of God's name Jehovah... that somehow it's made up... you should look at OLD editions of the King James version from the 15th and 16th century and look up Ps. 83:18.

We are all put on this Earth for a reason. The body is just a vehicle. The Spirit/Soul travels in this vehicle. We all have to experience things....LEARN , then move on! It might take many, many lifes for the Spirit/Soul to reach its goal.......but eventually WE WILL ALL reach THAT GOAL! Some will take longer....and vice-versa. Every single one of us is different. When we reach that goal.....the Spirit/Soul will stop been Reincarnated in a body. But we will still have existence.......in THE SPIRIT-WORLD.
So in short.....the answer to your question is this........
We ALL HAVE TO experience things to make us better!
P.S Religion DOES NOT come into it!! We are all Flesh and Blood.( The BODY). I have NO TIME for Religion.........it's the cause of most troubles on Planet Earth. That is why I think it's BULL.....excuse the pun!

Angels have physical bodies too, not like ours evidently, but they do have some kind of body. I think God created our bodies to be capable of inhabiting the world He gave us and as one 1 Cor 15 tells us, we will be given a new incorruptible body to inhabit the Heavenly Kingdom.

I would say that it was that He wanted to show the angelic realm that even a creature as lowly as man could comprehend the difference between right and wrong, and that we were worthy of redemption when we should fail as long as we weren't blasphemous. We were subjected to the same law as the angelic realm who rejected God and fell with Lucifer, so how could our punishment/reward be any different and still show the fulness of God's just nature?

Why bother at all? If this life is essentially just a game of chance, where those born with arrogant Christian parents who indoctrinate them as children go to heaven and everyone else goes to hell, why didn't God just do a bit of a lottery up there and skip straight to the eternity bit?

my thought is that it is because the souls that ae given into our body type are not mature enough to properly handle handle the freedoms afforded those withe ability to slip in and out of our present limited exitance.

Great answer on my pariotism question. I can not understand how that question offended some atheists. If you do I'd appreciate and edit and addition to your answer cuz truly I am not trying to offend those who act respectful.

Then why create everything else at all? Why have a physical universe?

Don't lump the gnostics in with christianity.
