I actually have a mini dachshund and a black lab.I bought the mini dachshund from a breeder and recued my back lab.My black lab was already an adult but my Doxie was only 10 weeks old.My lab was annoyed by my doxie's playfulness and all the biting that puppies do.At first my lab growled at him and tried to bite him back(my lab is a girl).Just slowly introduce them to eachother.Hold one of them and show them to the other. If the get to aggresssive seprerate them and try again in a half hour.Eventally they will learn to like eachother. It took my dogs a week. And now they are best friends

I have a 5 month old puppy who is a mix of a bunch of small/toy breeds and just recently got a 1 year old lab. I was worried about how they'd get on but my husband just simply brought out our puppy and there was no fights or anything. Of course the puppy is far more interested in being chased and playing than the older lab but they enjoy each other's company and the only fighting has been play fights. Ocassionally it gets a little too rough for our puppy so I just scoop her up out of harms way for a sec and give them a minute or two time out and then everything's fine again :) Just watch them for the first couple of tries, let them play in a preferably neutral area and keep an eye out for any signs of aggression. They may play roughly but chances are, they'll both be having the times of their lives! Just watch their tails to see if they're happy playing rather than getting upset.

It's never wise to just bring another dog into the house without them meeting first. They should meet in a neutral place.not near the home. You also have to watch out with them playing. Labs are very active and can hurt a mini doxie.

What you may want to do initially is keep them separated for a bit (if possible). Rub a baby blanket over the new dog (to get their scent over it) and then take it over to the other dog and see how he/she responds to it. If he/she is agressive to the new dogs scent, it might not be a wise idea to put them together until the older dog gets used to the idea that the new dog is there to stay. I wouldn't recommend putting the blanket in the older dog's eating or sleeping place but rather a neutral area like a living room or by hallway. Good luck!

Supervised playtime. You'd be surprised how well behaved big dogs can be with small ones. They know they are bigger and will be very gentle with the little one. Especailly if the little one is a girl and the larger a boy...match made in heaven. If they are both female you could have dominance problems when the little one becomes of age but they'll most likely be the best of friends eventually.

Introduce them somewhere that neither of them has been before. This reduces the chances of the current dog showing territorial aggression towards the newcomer.
