It is like when the Quran was first revealed. Did the whole people during the time of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) accept Islam then? Muslims were killed, exiled, abused, and tortured. Like Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said, "this religion started out strange and will again be strange..." Not too many people are fond of something they fear and mark as unknown.

It is not the media, it is radical islam with the appearant support of other muslims that cause those of us in the west to reject islam.

As one who has studied Islam from every angle imagineable, Sunni, Shiite, "liberal", "conservative", Wahhabi, etc. I can tell you that it takes EFFORT, PATIENCE, and an open mind. Not many people have such things these days in a world that has become reduced to soundbites and "gimme now".

don't generalize. in order to understand how could someone possibly use the name of a religion to kill (jihad) I studed Islam for 5 years.
sadly enough, the more I studied it, the more it disappointed me, despite my initial enthusiasm.
i know you will thumb me down, but Allah ualahi, I gave it a try.

Because they are closed-minded. Not like myself. I accept all other religions as being incompatible to my beliefs, but I know they exist as religions, so I just leave my anger and irritation to those who tell me to convert.

those who dont are the ones who are at loss of not kowing about and respecting Islam....
those who do read are not very succesful in convincing the others though
