They shouldn't be. I myself have always wondered this as this world is secular and it really shouldn't be fought for (at least not according to what Jesus taught).

***I found your answers to my questions. I have felt the same way when you've reprimanded me, and like you, I have allowed it to carry a little more weight than it should. I've thought about it, and I've come to realize that the only people here who ever upset me are the ones I like very much and have a great deal of respect for.
That said, I think we can both agree that everyone has bad days and will act out. And Ichee, I'm not an atheist. Not anymore. It would appear that I am with the questions I ask, but sometimes I just like to see the reactions. I'm sure you've felt the same way too.
As far as misinterpreting the askers intent (as you stated in my faith=proof question)....I've found that each group interprets the askers meaning in their own way. The atheists who answered that question felt that I was mocking the Christians, and most answered accordingly. Some of the Christians were offended also, again, thinking that they were being mocked. But if you note the question...Is faith all you need for proof of God's existence? Seems to be.....Well, turn it around to make a statement. Faith is all you need for proof of God's existence. A few people caught on, I think they might have been the ones who know I'm not an atheist and realized what I was doing. Anyway, it always pays to consider the speakers' intent, something few of us do. Not all of us are good at reading between the lines, I'm terrible at it.
I've deleted the original message I left for you because I don't want it on public record forever. It was really just between you and me. Have a great day Ichee. Hugs my friend.

If the interests of your country are in conflict with your morals then something's wrong. Personally I'd probably go with my morals, rather than support what I considered to be a corrupt or immoral government. Indeed that's the whole point of democracy.

well first of all Patriotic means Love of ones country it means you stand my the principals your county runs on. So yes its not only probable but very common to have patriotic people as christians and vice versa.
your going under the assumption that you have to be for the war in order to be patriotic. this is not true

Loyalty to my country is part of my morals. (See the Nine Noble Virtues)
And before you get your panties in a bunch, I am not an Atheist, I'm a Ãsatrúar. You imply that Atheists have no morals? Do you know how silly that makes you sound? Atheists have as much morals as you guys do, they just don't get them from your God.

It is possible for a person to put country before their morals or religion.
I do not. Nothing can be more important to me than my morals -- if I have nothing else, not clothes nor food nor shelter, but have my honor, I am still a wealthy man. I will not bow my morals to another man, the body politic, or to a deity itself if it showed itself and commanded.

I don't think the decision is to put the country before one's morals. I think that morals could make a person choose to put the country first, regardless of religion or lack of it.

it would be shameful to be christian and not patriotic. We enjoy great freedoms in this country. It is too easy to take for granted such a gift

Apparently so, as our esteemed leader G. W. Bush claims to be a devout Christian while being a war monger at the same time.
