I have never thought twice about cooking with tinfoil.
But my fiance made such a huge deal about it, saying that it cant be safe, I thought i would ask here if anybody has ever heard of anybody getting sick from it. I would like to clear this up with him so I can get back to my cooking.

To prove your B/F's point take tomatoe sauce and place it in some tinfoil, then into the fridge. Look at it the next day, you might need a towel to wipe up the sauce that's dripping through the foil. Foil is very reactive, any acid that comes into contact with it with "eat" the foil

No I have never gotten sick from using tinfoil to cook with. we use it mostly in the summer when we barbecue. Place a little butter on your tinfoil add your raw veggies and seasoning fold up the tinfoil, and put on your barbecue or cook in the oven. I do the same thing with potatoes. I have seen the Cooks do it on the food network on occasion as well. I don't see how you can get sick. Tinfoil is metal that is in it's thinest form. We cook in metal pots and pans everyday. I often use tinfoil to line my baking dishes to keep them from getting messes stained on the glass. I always use a little bit of non stick spray when doing so.

I've cooked with tinfoil and grew up with food cooked in tinfoil. I'm almost 40 and am very healthy. So are my kids. The only time it's not safe is in the microwave.

I think you shald ask your fiance where he got his information, in a nice way, and find out if there are any other little bits of misinformation that he is carrying around with him. It is those little things that make for tears in a relationship. They add up.

People have the weirdest ideas about things, don't they?

It is harmless. I know, I know, could cause cancer blah blah like everything else in this world, but really, maybe it used to be harmful back in the day when it was actually made out of tin, but not now.

My brother is a chef and he won't use tinfoil - he says he gets headaches if you use it.
I don't know - I don't have a problem.
