Was John F. Kennedy justified in bringing the U.S. and the Soviet Union to the brink of nuclear war over the placement of nuclear weapons on Cuba?

If the United States has the right to own nuclear weapons, should not Cuba also have that right?

Yes, Kennedy was right.

No Cuba should not have nuclear weapons. If you don't like it just remember The Golden Rule..... "He who has the gold makes the rules."

Good luck, I hope this helps.

They weren't Cuban weapons, they were Soviet weapons manned by Soviet troops.

Think about it this way: at the present time, if the Russians were to fire missiles at us, we'd have about 45 minutes notice. Not that the missiles being en route would be something we could do much about, but if the missiles were based in Cuba, we'd have about two minute's notice before they started impacting. The thought of a hostile power having nuclear weapons that close to the American homeland...you're gonna tell me that doesn't scare the crap outta you?

As someone else already said, having nuclear weapons is not a "right," it's a responsibility. If Cuba had them, I'm quite sure that Fidel would have used them by now.

Kennedy was absolutely correct and 100% justified in what he did. Besides, it wasn't he who "brought us to the edge" of a nuclear war, it was the Russians by putting the missiles there in the first place.

Read your history books, skippy.

no we were not justified. We were prepared to invade Cuba with more than four hundred thousand troops. The nuclear weapons in Cuba were not under Cuban control but Russian control. We also had nuclear weapons in proximity to the soviet union in Turkey, the actions in cuba was done to even the playing field, which was have weapons close enough for a preemptive strike. As the situation went on it corrected itself, and we both agreed to remove our respective arsenals out of eachother's back yards (we had submarines that could do the same job) and the United States agreed not to invade the Cuba.

I don't think Kennedy brought the nuclear weapons to Cuba, that was the Russians. And it was they who pointed them at the US. And it was Kennedy who didn't respond with violent action. Can you imagine if he would have developed a "fight them there so we don't fight them here" attitude? We would have had a nuclear war.

Wow. Are Liberals justified in their knee-jerk hatred of all things American? Nuclear weapons are not a right. They are a responsibility.
