I was thinking about getting a lip piercing. Are the chances of it clanking and chipping teeth high? What about gum migration? Will it make my gums look totally jacked up? Does it get infected easily?

Chipping teeth happens a lot with tongue rings but not so much lip piercings. Althought lip piercings do have side effects on your gums. The back of the ring rubs on your gums all day and can cause some gum area to reside or make the area weak. If the ring is placed right it shouldn't make your gums look "jacked up" at all. With it being so close to your tongue the chance of infection is higher but it's not as likely as the tongue since a lip isn't an active muscle so it does heal in time. The best way to figure out if it works for you is to visit a local shop and ask them questions because they can answer all of them and tell you which placement will work best for your face. Good luck and I'd suggest looking into it if you want it. Never hurts to ask questions. :)

With any piercing that can touch your teeth or gums, there is a risk of damage. Just be careful! It is a lot less "dangerous" than a labret piercing in general, but if you aren't cautious you can definitely chip a tooth. I kept mine in for months without any problems.

Also, it won't get infected easily because your mouth is self cleaning for the most part. However, I played with mine all the time without thinking about it and it took forever to heal.

I have the right side of my lip pierced. Without watching it you can definatly chip your teeth. I made that mistake. It's hard to eat without biting it for a little bit after you get it done but that will go away. And don't worry your gums will be fine.

Drinking through a straw wasn't too difficult for me so I wouldn't be too worried about that either.

I had my labret pierced and all of the above were risks of that particular piercing. None of them happened. It all depends on how the piercing is placed, the expertise of your piercer, how well you take care of it, and how much you play with it. Some people tend to have more side effects with certain piercings, for instance, I never had a problem with any of my piercings except my ears, which will not heal no matter what I do to them.

If you want it, go for it. If you start having problems you can always take it out.

yes , if you get your lip pierced at the bottom, near the labrette, it can cause gum migration and over time your gums will recede to the point that your two bottom middle teeth could come loose and fall out. if you want a lip piercing do it near the corner
