I have had them in my hair (I have long hair anyway, but I like my hair to be longer) since the beginning of school on and off but mostly its in braids. Can that help or hurt my hair?

It hurts your hair anytime you pull it back. You are putting too much pressure on your scalp and the hair will pull out, stretch and will ruin. Always best to wear your hair down, or get it cut.

It depends on how thick the braids are...the thicker they are the better it is for your hair. It also depends on how you are holding it in. For example, when you go to Mexico and have your hair braided in the little bitty braids they sometimes put foil on the ends which will really break and damage your hair. Stick with thicker braids and a no-metal rubberband.

It depends on the type of hair that you have. Many African Americans braid their hair a lot, in terms of helping it to grow. I don't know what it'll do for your hair, but it's more likely to help it than hurt it.

I am in the minority in a church that is mostly african american and from what I understand, many of the women get braids to help their hair. Or in the case of one woman I know, her hair is so thin and weak, that she keeps weaves. They braid their hair in corn rows and sew the weaves and pieces to the braids.

If your hair is braided to tightly, then you will see breakage along the hair line and temple areas. If you have not added a braid spray to add moisture/oil to hair and scalp.

I think if you get your natural hair braided it will help it, if you use weave with it i do not think it does anything for your hair

I've heard they actually help your hair grow faster, but that could just be BS, too. I've tried it, but my hair still grows slow. It seems to only grow fast after I have it dyed, which is a pain.
