yes loads of spyware. http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.

There can be viruses (scan downloaded files)... The RIAA is occasionally filing law suits against people on P2P networks. I believe only those who share (upload) copywritten files so far... It could happen to you. Don't do it without accepting the risk. I believe BearShare and LimeWire use the same network. Shareaza will hook you up to it's own network, the BearShare / LimeWire network, and the eMule / eDonkey network all at the same time. Program will crash some routers though and even some cable / DSL modems that aren't set exactly right.

I have used Torrents via different apps and find it slow and hard to configure for the novice.
If you are going to use P2P programs you should go for Limewire, the free edition, but firstly download and install Peerguardian, a program which hides your ID to snoops from the industry. Always run this first before starting up Limewire and turn it off when not as it can effect other programs accesssing the internet. Peerguardian runs well along side Limewire.
Do remember, P2P programs are legal, it is what you choose to download that may be breaking copyright laws ;)
