Every month, every other month, every 3 months? I use a box dye and do it at home. The last time I dyed it was 5 weeks ago, my roots are showing, and I want to color it again. My hair has always been kind of dry because it's naturally curly, but not brittle, and I use super moisturizing conditioner for curly hair. I don't want to end up frying my hair by dying it to often.

Most hairdressers suggest every 6 weeks. Then do the root area first and just comb the color through the ends the last 10 minutes or so to help keep your hair (especially the ends) from drying out.

Not only does it depend on what type of color (semi-permanent, permanent, temporary, etc.) you're using on your hair, but the state of your hair before coloring it, how often it grows and what kind of shampoo your're using. It's good that you condition it using the right type of conditioner for your hair type. However, a general guideline for all hair types, is 6 - 8 weeks to color your hair again. In between, you can use products to boost the haircolor, or even shampoos/conditioners that will deposit more hair color to areas where it is fading, etc.

From the sounds of it, you're using a permanent hair color, and that's very drying. Coupled with the fact that you describe your hair as "dry," it's very important you're not coloring it too often. Try using a semi- or demi- permanent hair color in-between "the big coloring jobs."

The more you dye your hair the more damage you will do. Try living with the reality for as long as possible, you might even get to like it!
