1 pill is not a toxic dose for a 75 lb. dog although in general, dogs CANNOT have any pain meds besides buffered aspirin (always check with vet first!!) all other meds are toxic and cause stomach or organ malfunction/failure. i hope your vet didn't just consult with you over the phone and had the dog come in for a check-up (to do vitals and ensure he is not dehydrated, etc.). in the past i have given my dogs pepto bismol to help settle upset stomach.

I think she might be alright due to her size. I would be worried if she were a small dog. Never give her Advil or Tylenol. If you have to give her some human meds., give her Baby Aspirin. It's the only thing that won't hurt them. It's very important not to let her dehydrate. They can go for a long time without eating but they've got to have liquids. If necessary, go & get some Pedialyte (Not sure of spelling. It's given to babies) & get that down her. I use a 5cc syringe. Anyway hope this helped. Good luck.

I'd suggest going in to a different vet and getting a 2nd opinion - you may need to take your dog in for blood tests to make sure she's OK. It could be the Advil, or she could have already been ill when you gave her the Advil & now may be getting worse. Getting her to the vet is the best way to go.

Take her to a different Vet as soon as possible...do not wait!!!Your fiance is wrong on this one.....Advil or any Ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers in dogs with just one single dose.Aspirin is not the safest either....it causes stomach upset and in some rare cases ulcers as well.Before giving your dog any kind of pain meds...consult your Vet next time and get the correct dosage.This may turn out to be nothing....but if it was my dog....I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Mistakes are made, now to fix it.
Advil on a regular basis will irritate your dogs stomach. Follow the vets suggestion, and if things don't improve, ask them about giving the dog a pepcid or something to settle her stomach. Once she starts to drink or feel better, then boiled chicken and a bit of rice for a first meal, something bland to help settle her stomach. Once she feels better, then regular food in small amounts for a couple of hours until she is back to normal.
If she doesn't improve, then to the vet immediately!

You need to get her to the vet. Sounds like the problem started Sunday when she was achy and got worse when she got the Advil. She must have had something wrong with her already. I she a breed that is prone to hip or back problems?
If she hasn't eaten or had anything to drink in over 12 hours she really needs to be seen.
We're keeping our fingers crossed for you!

It could of very well made the dog sick. You should never give your dog medication without checking with your vet first. It is safe to give aspirin but never advil or even tylenol.
Do not waste time with your vet saying wait for 24-36 hours to pass, get the dog to anopther vet immediately................
You did not intentionally try and hurt your dog, but before giving any mediacation in the future make a phone call to the vet first.

If she is 75 pounds, one Advil is probably not going to poison her;
it may be that it just didn't agree with her system.
Just keep in touch with your vet - if it doesn't start to improve by morning, take her in and they can check her out and give her fluids to boost her energy. To get her to eat, try something gentle on her stomach; our vet recommends boiled chicken breast meat and mashed potatoes - just a few bites every couple of hours.
I hope she feels better soon. For future reference, we give our senior dog chewable glucosomine for his joints (available at any pet store) and a baby aspirin if he's having trouble. Talk to your vet about the right dosage information for her weight.

Its probably not the Advil. Although it is not recommended (neither is Tylenol), I doubt the one pill caused what she is doing. I think the vet is right about the "bug", but often dogs need help with that too...instead of just letting it pass. I'd feel better about that option if the vet said it after examining her. My 2 cents.

Your dog should be ok, but do not feed her anything now until tomorrow, then feed her something bland, such as a good quality chicken fillet. Also, it is a fact that if your dog is sick, it will then take a drink, making itself sick again, then wanting another drink and then being sick again, it goes on and on. Only leave a small amount of water in the bowl for her, and only refill it twice until she is better. If she is not looking any better by tomorrow morning give your vet another ring, or take her down.
