They aren't going to. There are many troops that are not stationed in Iraq. He will be transferring them to Iraq. A draft isn't necessary yet.

This is a country with 300,000,000 people. Out of that number, and with a little persuasion from an advertising firm, the US can fill their military quotas without a draft.

It's only the army and the Marine Corps that needs to fill quotas, the other branches are turning away recruits who are avoiding the first two. For now, there does not seem to be much consideration in reintroducing the draft.

If a Democrat is elected, starts talking that Irak is a new Viet Nam, brings the troops back, then AlQaeda would be perceived as having beat the US on the first round and they will start getting more money and recruits. In conclusion they will stage another big attack on the US or on US interests abroad and a Democrat President will appear on TV and announce that in fairness to all they will re institute the draft.

It's called a 'back door draft;' he's basically just extending the minimum mandatory tour of duty for troops already stationed abroad, as well as calling up all of the National Guard, etc. I think the draft, as it was in Vietnam, would only become a reality again if we were to really get into it with North Korea, Somalia, etc. We're strapped for troops in the middle east alone, if all the other nations who despise us decide to engage us, we simply don't have enough voluntary manpower. Martha Rainville said this years ago, and she's a smart, smart lady!

As a soldier in the US ARMY i really hope that they don't bring back the draft because i don't wanna server with those who are just bitching the whole time and makin me miserable. I am headed back to Iraq and i loved it the first time i went if you give me the decision to go there then i would go in a heart beat because i found some of my BEST friends there and you can't believe the feeling of knowing who your true friends are!! If your a soldier stay a soldier if not then stay outta my ARMY because ill probably end up carrying your ruck anyway because your to much of a pansy to do it in the first place!!

The day he proposes the Draft is the Day we need to demand his resignation. Having the eligible candidates finally take interest in our politics would be a good thing, but I suspect that the results of these oversight hearings will bear fruit.

It's a sad state of affairs that enlisting is no longer a patriotic calling. Pay close attention to the actions of John Murtha--he may have the best idea's for putting the Simian Boy King into a corner.

The military's concern is not as much how to get these new troops (we had no problem recruiting twice as many troops as we have today 10 years ago). But in creating new units and providing facilities to train and house them.

The military are still recruiting all the new soldiers they need and re-enlistment among Iraq veterans is greater than peacetime re-enlistment rates.

Yes there is a very good chance of the draft to start up again, if this b.s. in Irag escalades and from my perseption it is. It's turning into another Vietnam at a fast rate.

We still have plenty that are volunteering. The draft will never happen again unless we just don't have enough volunteers.

Never. There will be no draft.

I'm beginning to think it would be a good idea though - apparently there are a large number of ignorant Yahoo posters who are wasting their time, rather than educating themselves or contributing to society.
