And best way to cut it is through the middle, around the pip, pull the 2 sides apart, stick a knife into the pip and twist it so it comes away, and peel the skin away.

The first thing you should do is to check if it is ripe. Avocados are picked green so they will ship better. Press the avocado slightly,if it feels soft it is probably ripe, If you press it and it is hard DO NOT EAT IT, believe me when I tell you there is nothing worst than an avocado that is not ripe.
OK, that's out of the way. If it is soft take a sharp knife and start cutting it from the top and go all the way around till you get to where you started. Open the avocado and stab the pit with your knife, turn the knife so the pit comes out. Throw the pit away, unless you want a avocado tree but that is a totally different e-mail.
Scoop out the flesh of the avoado and put it in a bowl and mash it up with a fork. Pop two pieces of bread in the toaster, when they are toasted spread with real butter. After butter is melted spread the avocato that you mashed on the toast. Put sea salt and freshly ground black pepper on top. A TRUE MEAL FIT FOR A KING
WARNING- prices for avocados will be going right through the roof because of the freeze in California

First of all I hope you have purchased a haas avocado, they have a better taste and texture. Then you want to cut it in half lengthwise. At this point you can peel the skin off or scoop out the avocado.

You can then chop up some fresh tomato and onion and mix it with the avocado. If you have salsa add that also. After you have finished with the mixing squeeze some lemon juice over the avocado to prevent it from turning black.

Avocado is awesome, and if you've eaten guacamole, you've eaten avocado.

You wait until the outside skin has a little give, and is kind of papery. That's when it's ripe. Then you peel off that, and inside is a green much, with a hard pit. Getting the pit out is tricky, and can be dangerous.

Sometimes, people don't peel it right away, and use a knife to slice the avocado in half around the pit, much like a peach. Then, set down the knife, take the two halves, and twist gently. They should twist apart. Now you can scoop the fruit out from the skin. If it's ripe, it should lift right out.

Yes, avocados are messy. :)

But, you can eat them in a variety of ways. Since they're high in fat for a fruit, people often use them similarly to mayonnaise. Spread it on sandwich! Put some slices in a salad with lettuce! Of course, there's always the old standby, guacamole. My young niece just loves to eat it straight, but there's no accounting for taste. :)

this recipe makes for a great light appetizer or something to go along with soup or salad. I first made it to impress my then girlfriend now wife. Ingredients: lemon or lime, dill, garlic, shrimp, salt and pepper, butter, tomato. Now I don't measure ingredients because flavors vary and all that jazz but this is the idea; i use small salad shrimp which are pre cooked and deveined- rinse them out and then put a small pat of butter into a pan and melt, saute the garlic for about a minute or just until it almost starts turning golden, add the dill and shrimp, (you want enough shrimp to cover the two avocado halves), as that is cooking add some lime or lemon to flavor and dice the tomato into small cubes. Put the avocado into an oven safe pan / dish and put some salt over the avocado. About 1 minute before you pull the meat off the heat add the tomato and when the shrimp and tomato mixture is warmed and the juices are soaked into the meat pour over the shrimp. the oven isn't to cook but just to warm so a few minutes at 300-350 degrees will do. You can skin the avocados or not when baking them your choice

First of all, avocado as the latest superfood?! I would've never guessed.

Make sure you pick a good avocado. This is usually one with a brown skin that's kind of soft, but not too firm or squishy (if you want to eat it in a day or two). To use, you just slice the avocado lengthwise all the way around and then twist it to open, kind of like when you're opening a peach. The green stuff inside is what you want. They tend to go bad quickly, so you want to use it within a day or two.

As for recipes, I really like making avocado and chedder cheese melts. They also go great in salads (especially with some pine nuts), or topped on a bean burger (or regular burger, I suppose, but I can't really vouche for that) with a slice of tomato.

Guacamole is always a great bet, but it also goes great on salads and sandwiches. Although recently, I was served a Tortilla Soup with slices of avocado in it and it was superb.

To open, take a sharp knife and cut through the skin going from the top to the bottom and back to the top so that there is a vertical seam on the fruit. Then twist and open. If you are trying to make slices, just make slices in the fruit and then carefully scoop it out. Otherwise, if you are making guacamole, it doesn't matter how it gets out.

Make sure that it is sufficiently ripe, because there is nothing worse than opening a non-ripe avocado.

Okay, I just did this today. First you you slice the avocado lengthwise all the way around and then separate it into two halves. Remove the pit from avocado, then take a spoon and separate the pulp from the skin by digging it out in a scooping motion. Then look up a good recipe for guacamole and get you some chips. Hope that helps.

If you like seafood you can make a hispanic dish called
ceviche

This is great for parties as a dip with chips or tostadas and just about everyone likes it.

Get two bags of shrimp any kind that they sell prepackaged in the store or fresh.

2-3 avocados depending on how much you like it.

1 jalapeno pepper or more if you like it hot.

1/4 of a regular sized white/yellow onion finely chopped

lemon juice (comes looking like a lemon)

3 tomatoes finely chopped

cilantro - this is a strong herb so go light- a little less than a hand full finely chopped.

oyster juice - found near the olives in grocery store. Use a small amount- about 1/4 cup

ketchup just enough to cover the bottom of the dish you using-maybe a little more-this will help to keep the lemon from overpowering your dish.

a little salt maybe 3-4 dashes.

one pack of splenda or similar product.

a dash of garlic powder- go very light you don't want this season to be tasted-it is more of a compliment.

The most important thing is to start with small amounts of any season and taste as you go.

Enjoy!

Make sure that the Avocado is tender no mushy; Cut into the Avocado and remove the center; than use a spoon to remove the avocado from the two parts. After that you can do anything with it. Chop it if your making a chili sauce; or mash it to to put in a sandwich.

The MAIN thing is to make sure it's ripe before you peel it. It should be slightly soft all over. If not yet ready, it will happily ripen in the fruit bowl

You can peel it with a potato peeler, cut it in half and remove the large stone. Then chop it and put it in salad with lettuce and dressing, or blend it with some yoghurt, paprika & lemon juice to make guacamole. To get more options put "avocado" and "recipe" into a search engine.
