The previous poster is right that CCN, or referral services like it, typically act as the middle man for parents or guardians looking for child care and licensed individuals or daycare centers. The one thing you should be aware of is that, other than making sure a place is properly licensed by the state, and the place or center having to "register" with the referral service so they can keep their records up-to-date, most of these referral services do not actually go into the centers or homes and/or do not do any type of evaluations on things like the competence of the caregiver(s), how safe or clean the place is, etc. You can ask the referral service what their standards are for listing someone/a center. So you'll definitely need to do some legwork on your own to investigate a potential place. Word-of-mouth from someone that you trust can be an excellent tool. Find someone who is as picky about where they would place their child as your are and with whom, and ask them if they are happy with their daycare choice and the things they have noticed, both good and bad. Always trust your initial instincts when you visit a place, too. We went into one center that, I kid you not, did not have air conditioning in the middle of the summer, and we lived in New Mexico at the time. My husband and I immediately walked right out and kept walking. Good luck to you and your family!

I don't know what a network daycare is but all 4 of my kids went to daycare/preschool. If you are looking for placement, you need to do several things. Go and personally see the center, meet the director and teachers and see how they handle things. Speak to people who have used the centers and get their opinions. Lastly, go with your instincts. My 5 year old was in a very good center, learned a lot, kept busy, etc. But they had a high teacher turnover rate and I was not comfortable with that so I took her out. Use your best judgment and good luck,

In our area, Child Care Network is a referral service that helps to pair licensed child care homes and centers with families in need of child care. The CCN keeps updated files on individuals and centers with openings, rates, hours of operation, etc. I have been a licensed home child care provider for 20 years and have worked with our local CCN numerous times.
