Help. I am divorcing and going to apply for a loan for a house but I know my credit score is low. I am a Disabled American Veteran and while I was seriously ill I did not pay my bills on time. For the past 25 years I have shown outstanding financial responsibility. Now that I had a hardship (I was in and out of hospitals having surgery) it has negatively affected my crdit score. I am REALLY, normally very good about paying my bills. How can I get my credit ranking back up? I have gone back to my "good" ways, but it hasn't helped to raise the credit score. Any other ideas? Will writing to the various companies work? I can't just wait for time to pass because I don't have the time to wait (did that just make sense?).
Thank you all in advance
Randa

I hope a little more details will help find me some answers:
1. yes, I qualify for a VA loan but you still have to go through financing and have a decent score to get the money
2. I have only 2000 in credit card bills, and only 1/2 year to pay off a car loan, so using a debt consolidation/repair doesn't seem useful
3. I am open to any suggestions..Thanks!

What about qualifying for a veteran's home loan. There must be some veteran's benefits out there for you.

There is no magic bullet cure to fixing your credit in a very short time. It generally takes several months of work.

And please don't waste your time thinking a credit repair agency can do it any faster then you can.

I don't have enough info to recommend anything. You can try contacting your creditors and explain the situation, and see if they will work with you on paying the debt back. But in exchange, they MUST remove the negative information from your credit history NOW! Waiting for the bill to be paid doesn't help you.

I recommend credit repair unless you have lots of time and a high tolerance for aggravation. Some things are better left to the professionals. A quality company will be a non-profit, offer a money-back-guarantee, and commit to raise your score up to 90 points in 90 days.
