I have found many site that have said the Continental Kennel Club is unmonitored and is just a way for puppy mills to charge more for their puppies. Does anyone have any accurate information?

The Continental Kennel Club is pretty much a "we'll take your word for it, tell us it's purebred and we'll give you a pedigree" registry, and would practically register a goat as a great dane if you paid them enough money.

There's a reason that they're called the "Con"KC. I wouldn't waste my money on a registration from them, and I wouldn't buy a dog whose breeder was either so ignorant or so desperate that they think a ConKC registration means something.

Generally they're used by people who, for one reason or another, are unable or unwilling to register their dogs with the AKC or another reputable registry, but want to say that their dogs are "registered" in order to charge more for them to unsuspecting people who don't know any better.

WOW Pres Bush is NOT the president anymore and the liberals are still trying to blame him for the economy LOL These boards are FULL of these kinds of people who TRY to bring politics into EVER area of your life, and this includes your pets. In the end what will happen is NO one will be able to have a pet BUT the elite and this is just what they want. YES do buy a puppy from a breeder and it will ONLY cost your 600. to a 1000. for one! YES go to the Humane Society and get a pet there, by the way the CEO makes more in one year then most people in the world in a life time. Most of the donations do NOT even get to the animals. Now many the local animals shelters do but the national ones do NOT. Google is and you can see yourself. OMG these people make me sick with their DO as I TELL you not as I DO CRAP!.

Yup.

Always go with AKC. They monitor the activities and breedings of all the dogs in the registry via computer. If it looks to them that you are breeding indiscriminately - just to make a few bucks, they will stop issuing registration papers for subsequent litters. Also, they will not honor your request to register puppies from dogs that were bred before the age of 18 months - a sure sign that you are running a puppy mill.

It's not much of a registry and the AKC does not allow a dog registered by any other means into the AKC shows. There are no "breed standard" in the CKC.

Yup, they were created by puppy mills so they could say they have "registered" dogs. They'll pretty much register anything. I would never buy a dog with CKC registration, unless it were the Canadian Kennel Club. The Canadian Kennel Club is Canada's "AKC" and is a reputable registry. So it's important to make sure which one you are dealing with.

I believe it is cause I had a friend who has a yorkie -poo . She registered it with the continental kennel club. can anyone believe that they will register a mixed breed ? I could not believe that untill she showed me the papers on it ,. now she thinks she can sell any puppies that this dog has as registered . I told her she cannot do that . She says she can cause the ckc is backing her up. I am so angry at her cause i feel she is cheating people when she does something like that . Well yes ckc will register anything.

Why do you think that the pet stores are all registering with them now??? They require NO proof of parentage, and do not require that the parents were even registered al ALL!!!! It is a waste of money!! People can print out thier own "registration" papers and save a ton of money!!

Gee MORON below me!!!!! Sending in pictures is a LAME A** way to prove something is purebred!!! They don't know those are for the dog you want to register!! Those could have been taken of the neighbors dog, or of a REAL dog at a show. Only a SCAM registry would register based on that!! DUUHHH!!!

No, it is a legitimate registry. It is not an "I'll take your word for it" registry because you must submit three photos (two sides, one front) and have two people sign an affidavit stating the dog is purebred before they will isue papers. Then, the papers are labeled original stock if the animal is not from registered parents (AKC and/or CKC).
I know this because I've registered purebred dachshunds before whose sire and dam were purebred, but papers had been lost/destroyed.
Puppy mills use registered dogs to breed, not unregistered dogs they have to send off papers for. To register a litter, you must have the sire and dam's registration papers (CKC or AKC) before the litter papers can be sent. Then when you sell a puppy, you provide the preprinted papers for the new owner to send in and register the dog in their name as well as the name they choose for the pup.

They WILL issue papers for mixed breeds - such as a Yorkie-Poo or a Cockapoo. The papers state the dog is of mixed breeds. But the photos they require tell the tale in purebreds - a photo of a Yorkie Poo should not look like a purebred Yorkie.

That info is correct. To get papers from CKC all you need to do is send in two photos of your dog. How will they know whose dog it is or if it is even the dog they are sending paper for? How can that be reputable?
