I have a cat who is quite large (23 lbs). He is orange/white and sheds like crazy!! Is there anything to lessen the shedding (besides brushing...I feel like I am doing that constantly!!). I won't stop brushing him....I just want to know if there is something that can help along with the brushing.

A good quality diet can make a huge difference in how much your cat sheds. Feeding a high-quality diet with canned food will make a big difference in the cat's overall health, which will cut way down on the amount of shedding hair. http://www.catinfo.org/ has good info about diet.

With 4 indoor cats, my house used to be awash in hair, but since I made the change to a high-quality canned food, there's a LOT less hair floating around!

Wow... 23 lbs.

First I think your kitty is over-weight and needs to shed a few pounds. The extra weight may be stressful for the kitty especially when he needs to walk around. Stress can cause inordinate shedding.

Second, you probably need to look at his diet. Many times diet has a lot to do with inordinate shedding.

Third, you are obviously a loving pet guardian to brush your kitty everyday.

Fourht, if I were you, I'd consult a vet about the kitty's shedding and diet.

:) power to you!

what are you feeding him? sometimes diet has a lot to do with shedding, if you are feeding him quality food there is less shedding....I would suggest that you feed your cat natural choice complete care indoor formula food. it does really help with shedding, my cats have been eating the stuff for almost a year and they still do shed some and part of that is I don't brush them as much as I should but they shed much less than when they were eating Iams.

oh i feel your pain! i have a huge orange & white cat also (only about 19 lbs) with long hair (thankfully not like a persian, only about 2 1/2" long)
i haven't found much to help with the shedding, and i've gone through vacuums like crazy! i can't find one that picks up his fur without getting clogged after a couple uses.

good luck!

There is some stuff at Walmart you can get. I think it's called Shed Stop or something like that. Not completely sure on the name.

you may need a better brush, one that gets down to where the bottome layer is so that it gets rid of the hair that gets left behind by regular brushes.
