for a ticket I received and didn't pay from more than ten years ago!
I never got any ticket at all; the ticket was for "violation of title" where supposedly my license plate was not the right one for the car that was being driven -
This was before they made it mandatory to turn in your license plates on a dead car - instead of keeping them in a box somewhere in your garage! Obviously, someone stole my old license plate, put it on a car, and then was stopped by the police - all of this, unknown to me, until I received this legal notice today.
I quess the driver, whoever they are, let the cop just think it was me. What should I do?? Is there a statute of limitations for that stuff in PA?? Why would they wait for ten years before threatening me to take my drivers license unless I pay them $350.00??? If they did this 10 yrs ago, the cop would know it wasn't me he stopped. now what do i do?????

they should have asked for a license when writing that ticket. If they don't have a record of your license number on the citation they should have no proof against you. You should be able to appeal that. You may have to call the police and ask them what your options are. Just make sure you're not angry when you call, since they might not help you if they think you have an attitude.

However, they don't overlook old violations

My husband had a problem a few years ago. He was applying for his license for the first time when he was 32. However, when he was 19 he got an underage drinking fine that included a 90 day suspension of his license. Well since he didn't have his license back then, they waited until he applied for it, then they made him wait 90 days before he could take the permit test.

Pennsylvania is cracking down on traffic violations in 2007. I know that you have the right to appeal, and it should be listed on the notice. In this case I would suggest you get a lawyer, because I think you have a valid case. If you did not receive a notice ten years ago and was unaware that this violation ever occured, I believe you would have a strong case against the state. You may even be able to find someone to take this case "pro bono" (free of charge) once you explain what happened.

Good luck to you!

You could go to court over it, but the legal fees would be high. Chances are the officer that wrote the ticket, will not have enough evidence to prove that you are guilty, but then you have to pay for an attorney. If all it is is just paying a fine, you are better off doing that then going to court to clear your name.

Go to court and request that you be allowed to do a handwriting exemplar of your signature. The 2 signatures won't match and you're off the hook. A family friend just went through this after a "friend" of hers used her name on a moving violation. It took 5 minutes in court and it was done with all charges dismissed.

the cheaper way would be pay the 350. sadly in the justice system, being right or innocent is not always a cheap thing to prove. you are guilty untl you prove yourself innocent. there is not statute of limitation when they have a judgement against you. a lawyer would probably cost you at least $500

Just go to the court date, I'm sure the judge will let you off if you're telling the truth. There are no legal fees for traffic court.

There must be a trial option or an appeal option on the notice.

You pay the $350. You got a ticket you never paid, so you have to pay.
