I installed a trial version of xp 64 onto my laptop, which has an AMD Turion 64 processor, and 1gb ram. However, when trying to run my games, it said that drivers for the ati xpress 1100 graphics card had not been installed. So i downloaded it, but when trying to install got a message saying that it could not run on a 64 bit OS. Does this mean that no 'normal' programs will work on x64?
this is a bit annoying because Age Of Empires 3 told me that my computer was only running at 800 mhz, because I didnt have the software get the full 1.6ghz peformance promised by the turion processor. Whats going on?? Would I have been better off buying a machine with the old school 32 bit processor instead, with a higher processing speed?

The AMD Turion 64 processor was made to run Windows Vista, not XP 64-bit. Like the previous answerer told you, you will have to get the XP 64 off there (I do not know how) and reinstall all your drivers. None of your normal programs will work, because they are all for the 32-bit XP.

When you installed the trial version of xp 64 you wiped out all the motherboard specific drivers that properly enable the system bus, graphics bus, etc. Go to the system manufacturers website and download the appropriate drivers for the operating system you have installed.

But here's a link to the ati site for graphics drivers. http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Rule of thumb: Trial, Beta, RC1 are all short hand for limited, test software that may have driver issues, compatibility issues and unless you are using a test system that it's OK if it has problems don't use em...
