Cook it just how you would cook a normal potato i.e. boil / roast / fry etc

You cook it just like normal potato, in a pan of boiling water with a small amount of salt to add the taste. They take slightly less time to cook than normal potato so beware, only about 15mins. When the are soft all the way through then drain them and mash with a small amount of butter and milk. You can also cook them in the oven but this takes slightly longer to do. Just peel them as normal and slice them finely, then put them in a small amount of cooking oil in the oven for about half an hour, they taste lovely.

Hope this helps

:)

They do cook quicker than an ordinary potato, try mashing 1 sweet potato with two ordinary potato's add a little milk butter and nutmeg, use as a side dish or to top shepherd's pie, great alternative to boring mash.

i agree with the other answers. i roast it in a roast although it takes less time to roast than potatos, i mash it on its own after steaming it same as potato, sometimes i mix the potato and sweet potato together to make a mash. or steam it in slices and eat as is with little butter and salt mmmmmmm. HOWEVER as with ALL veg steam steam steam. if you boil veg much of the vitamins, minerals and TASTE are poured down the sink in the water, but if you slice thin steam for 4 to 8 min they taste much better (i mean all veg not just sweet potato) and retain their goodness. you can get a decent steamer for £15 of amazon or from robert dyas. buy them on special.
you can make crisps out of it too. dont know bout uk but in australia i got this circle of plastic with little stands all the way round and you slice potato or sweet potato or parsnip etc and put each slice standing up in a slit in the plastic then bung it in microwave for 5 to 8 min then they come out as crisps with no oil so not as unhealthy as regular crisps.

Hi! here's a couple of recipes you might want to use....

Sweet Potato
Basic cooking
To bake, pierce with a fork in several places, then bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Boil whole, unpeeled potatoes for 20 to 40 minutes, cut-up potatoes for 10 to 20 minutes. Pierce whole potatoes before microwaving, then cook at high for 15 to 20 minutes (for 4 potatoes). Remove potatoes from microwave, wrap or cover, and let stand for 3 minutes.

Spiced Sweet Potato Soup
Peel and thinly slice 11/2 lbs. sweet potatoes. Combine in saucepan with 13/4 cups chicken broth, 1 cup water, 1 tsp. ground coriander, 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes, 1/2 tsp. sugar, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Simmer, covered, until tender. Puree in food processor. Stir in 2 tbsp. lime juice. Serves 4.

Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes
Bake four 8-oz. sweet potatoes at 425 deg F for 45 minutes or until firm-tender. Scoop out flesh, leaving 1/4-inch shell. Mash flesh with 1/4 cup Parmesan, 1 tbsp. butter, 1 tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Spoon into shells and bake 20 minutes or until shell is crispy. Serves 4.

Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes & Garlic
In large baking pan, combine 2 tbsp. olive oil, 8 cloves garlic (unpeeled), and 1/2 tsp. rosemary. Heat in 425 deg F oven for 5 minutes. Add 2 lbs. peeled, thinly slice sweet potatoes. Bake, turning occasionally, for 40 minutes or until tender. Sprinkle with 1/2 tsp. salt. Serves 4.

Have fun! Enjoy & good luck!..._;-)

I do mine on the grill and bake it like a regular potato, wash, poke with a few holes to vent and foil... you can also do this in the oven I cook it usually enough to poke a fork through the foil..... when cooked and hot, I like to take softened butter, cinn. and sugar and whip together, re-chill and use on the potato...

Boy this is making me hungry!

You can cook it any way you'd cook ordinary potato. I like it best roasted.
