My dr told me that having 3-4 peroids a year is healthy. While I was on Depo shot I only had a peroid about every six months. Regular birth control pills were given to me to regulate my peroid since it only shows up once every few months unexpected. My last pregnancy I didn't even know I was pregnant because I was so irregular but somehow I took the test at exactly 3 weeks pregnant. If you never ever ever want to have one there is always the hysterectomy---I wouldn't reccomend that since it isn't exactly reversable. Good luck

I was on orth for over 10 years..... I do not think you can turn it off with ortho.... I now have an IUD.... I have not had a period for months now.... and it is a lot cheaper than the pill.. and you do not have to worry about it for 5 years..... it is in and you are done ... no remembering time etc. for 5 years

it is not healthy to 'turn off' your period. i was on the pill for 3 years and hated it. i always forgot to take the pill. and you know what? i got pregnant! LOL i decided to have the IUD instead, and my period comes about every 50 days and lasts 3 days, with almost no cramping, and my doctor says that it's perfectly normal to have a cycle like that with an IUD. there is a pill out now that you only get 4 periods a year, but you need to talk to your doctor about the best option for you.
