Honestly, I don't blame pirates. The movie and music industry has been putting out alot of crap lately.
Why am I buying a whole album for just one good song??? Why am I spending $20 on a DVD that had only one good fight scene??? We are being robbed.
But the RIAA has lied... CD sales are down, yes. But MP3's and I-Tunes sales are way up. Smaller artists are becoming more known because of pirates. Obscure movies are getting known because of pirates.
Pirates have changed the movie and music industry forever. Now I can preview a movie before I buy it and not waste my money on a crap cinematic production. Now I can preview an album and only download the songs that were actually worth the disc it was burned on. Pirates have driven the technology to a new day and age. So while you criticize the pirates and support the fat and rich entertainment industry while you listen to your $400 Ipod.... remember it was a pirate that made the Ipod possible.

Pirating is illegal, but the record and movie companies have made their own monster. They charge WAY TOO MUCH for Cd's/DVD's. It costs about $3.50/ unit for CD's that includes paying the artist, advertisement, and shipping costs. They charge stores crazy prices, which in turn causes the store to have to charge an even crazier price to make a fair profit. When most Artists make $.25 -$.50 per copy sold, who is making all the money? The label!!!!! Not to mention a lot of CD's are crap! They contain 1 or 2 good songs, and the rest suck! Give the people a good product, at a fair price, and we will buy. Give us crap, and charge us out the A - S - S, and we will pirate it!

The recording artists aren't losing much money, the biggest part of their money doesn't come from CD sales. The actors aren't losing any money, they're under contract when the movie is made. The record companies and movie studios are losing money, so pirate away!

It is not like they are stealing food or something needed to live. I have not problem selectively picking songs I want from walmart.com it is not like I waste money getting a CD with a bunch of bad songs that way.
They are pirates and many of them are not hurting for money,

I think about the current prices of software, and know that part of that is due to software piracy, which is just plain theft. Whether it's operating systems, expensive office suites, Photoshop, music, movies, etc., it's still theft. As one of your answerers said, it's impossible to stop, but it is possible to slow it down. If people in this forum would just stop telling others how to break the law, that would go a long way to slowing it down.

Yes ... it is illegal. So was alcohol during prohibition.

80% of the home PCs on the planet have at least one pirated piece of software or music ....

The people have spoken.

I agree that stealing is stealing but when it comes to bands who blatantly rip their fans off by putting out a "greatest hits" compilation featuring one new song, I have no moral dilema downloading stuff like that. Want me to pay for an album, then put out a FULL album.

I hope that they all get caught and get hit with thousands of dollars in fines. Stealing is stealing and it costs all of us because of the ones that don't think anything of stealing.
