OK- here goes:
Flight. While it is one of mankind’s greatest achievements, over the years it has endured many modifications, including cosmetic and internal. It's been transformed from the guise of the Wright brother’s "flying machine" at Kitty Hawk to the modern jet fighters and massive commercial airliners that we know today. These days, many engineers strive to increase the overall efficiency of planes in numerous ways, such as aerodynamics or.....................

What is one of mankind's greatest achievements,"powered flight", has, over the years, completely transformed our society through its almost miraculous engineering developments.
He can use this as the initial introductory statement, and follow up with the innovations that have occurred in the last 100 years. Don't go into too much detail, as it can bore an audience that does not share your love of aircraft. mention the "cantilever method" of construction, to the DC-2-3 airliners it was used on etc. (it did away with the need for wire bracing, for example) to the move from props to jets. Mention to the tremendous progress made in A/C design during WW1 and 2. Good Luck!!

Easy as 1, 2, 3.
1. Tell them what you're going to tell them.
2. Tell them.
3. Summarize what you told them.
Flight is one of man's greatest achievements that has gone through cosmetic and internal changes.
The Wright brother's plane at Kitty Hawk has transformed into modern jet fighters and massive commerical airliners.
Today engineers strive to increase the efficiency of planes in ways such as aerodynamics, ease of flying, and of course comfort to the passengers.
GOD bless you and your brother, always.

Using the word "what" is the problem. It sounds like he wants to ask a question.
He can write:
Flight, one of mankind's greatest achievements, has undergone many modifications, both internal and external.
