Qantas flies from LA to Sydney or Melbourne, and San Francisco and Honolulu to Sydney. Also United from LA or SF to Sydney. Air New Zealand and United both also go from LA or SF to Auckland. Otherwise you will have to go through somewhere in Asia. Or if you're on the East Coast then there's the option of going through London as well but most people still go through California.

Yes, there are direct flights, but it depends on where you are coming from... From the West Coast, there are direct flights between Los Angeles and Sydney and Melbourne. There are also Direct flights from San Francisco to Sydney. I also believe there are non-stop flights between Seattle and Australia. The further east you go in the United States, the harder it will be to find a direct flight. I flew from my hometown of New York City on Qantas, but had to stop in Los Angeles on my way to Sydney. Hope that helps. I would consult both Qantas, which is the Australian airline, and United Airlines-- which I believe are the only two airlines that fly direct between the United States and Australia. Good luck!

There are several direct flights from the west coast (San Francisco or LA) to Sydney or Melbourne. I flew on United and Air New Zealand but there might be others.

From the east coast or the centre I can't say. Or if you want to fly to Perth or Cairns things might be different.

Check on Expedia.com or some other travel web site.

Hope this helps
