The two most general responses will usually be:

Atheist and Scientist

1.) There is no known way to measure or observe a supreme being/creator/God.

Please logically explain why if by scientific method it's not provable He doesn't exist?

Believers (All religions)

2.) Because it's in the bible, quran or similar holy book.

This is a circular reference, therefore not acceptable, because these books are the inspired word of God.

Please provide evidence to support your belief.

Thanks for your answers. :)

I truly appreciate all the answers, but I have taken exception to one

"You're not looking for answers. Your post is disingenuous"

How would this person have the knowledge of what was going on in my head when I asked a question in a public religious forum?

Believe it or not, I do believe God exists because He is the greatest explaination for life and consciousness.

I've come to the same conclusion that the holy bible does, when it says, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no god.'"

The burden of proof lies with one who is conscious and can't tell me why.

The "best" argument I've ever encountered is the argument of design. It goes something like this...

If you were alone, stranded on a desert island, and walking the beach one day you find a flashlight. You've never seen a flashlight, you've never heard of a flashlight, you don't know what it is or what it is for. After fiddling around with it you find out that when you slide a certain part on the outside it illuminates from the end. After taking it apart and realizing "how" it works (to the best of your knowledge), you conclude it must have had a Maker because of it's simple and yet complex design and ability to fulfill a purpose.

Applying this type of "logical conclusion reasoning" you can look at humankind, the complexity and yet simplicity of the human body and it's abilities and conclude it must have had a Maker.

HOWEVER, I'd like to point out a certain "fact" that should also be considered. When people argue about the "statistical chances" of the human body "just happening" and the odds against it, or about the spontaneous occurrence of the beginning of "life", the statistical chances proposed are true. Why can't "we" be that one in a bizzillionmilliontrilliongazillion chance? There is no argument I've encountered to say it's not true either.

I couldn't resist this question, nice one, although my answers won't be anything new or change the paradox one bit.
Consider the word "god". It's a made up word, I don't know how old, but at one time there were lots of gods. Trees, the sky, the sun and animals were, and still are, gods in cultures around the world. As time passed, as man grew to become a more civilized and organized organism and control became a factor, gods were whittled down and majority rule started to take hold. This probably took place prior to Moses, but I could be wrong, but even so, leaders realized the perfect control mechanism, "do this or suffer" and the fear of the unknown, powerful "god" became a tool to keep people in line, not just on the physical plane but with their "everlasting" soul, another myth. Look around at the ignorance of the human species today, not five thousand years ago, and try, if you can, to imagine how ignorant people were a thousand years ago, even three hundred years ago and try to move the slider back a few thousand years. This day and age people are just as stuck under the thumb of ancient, passed down stories meant to keep the peasants on their knees and the land owners in their castles. It will always be like this, likely. What a shame.

First, do not confuse atheist and scientist.

Atheists assert that god does not exist. This is an unprovable leap of faith, just as theism is. There is, in the mind of atheists (such as myself) an overwhelming amount of evidence that god does not exist but no proof. As evidence many would cite the lack of a non-human reason for a god - the universe seems to be explicable without a god and as our knowledge grows it leads away rather than towards a god. There is also the evidence of things which, if there were a god, would seem to make the god evil - tsunamis, diseases, etc. We talk of someone releasing anthrax spores as a terrorist but refuse to label the (theoretical) developer of anthrax as a terrorist.

Scientists, if they must be generalized, assert that the supernatural does not exist. If god does exist, he would be subject to the some scientific measurement.

I think the only relevent test of the existence of god, is whether he affects change in the established rules of order.

That is- does god change the course of a weather pattern to kill and destroy some people, in favor of others? Does he affect the skills of a surgeon, so that he is able to save some people, and let others die? Does he create storms in mountainous regions to kill some mountain climbers, but not others. Does he direct the path of tornados? Does he create earthquakes...or not?

It seems, as science develops more and more every year, and we can now study and model these previously unknown forces- we find that there is no 'magic'. Everything follows certain rules of physics. While you can argue that god created all these rules 15 billion years ago- there has been absolutely no evidence whatsoever that he affects changes in these laws today. Therefore, god is quickly being proven to be irrelavent, whether he exists or existed at one time. The idea of an omnipotent being who controls our destiny is- frankly- a child's fantasy.

specific , I examine on the internet some the place lol. ok kidding aside this might properly be a question that truly won't be in a position to be responded if desire entire concrete info. many times people who ask this question do not have confidence and there is not that would desire to ever convince them there's a god. perchance there is probably there is not. There are nonetheless many that do have confidence because of the fact it supplies convenience and which skill to their existence. of direction there are people who have confidence slightly strongly and use violence to convince or punish others who do not have confidence comparable to them. some might say as info there's a god is go searching each and every thing you touch and notice replace into created by god. yet then non believers might supply scientific theories on a thank you to describe the international around them. So the place to circulate to have confidence or not, what ever makes you chuffed.

First, it simply is not logically possible to prove something (anything) does not exist as it is not possible to search every corner of the universe.

Second, I have seen no evidence that sufficiently (or at all) supports the existence of a supreme being nor do I see any reason why one would be necessary. Thus, the more logical and most supported answer is that there is no god.

Beyond that, we just don't know.

If you truly wish to have a logical debate, then you have to have a few criteria of agreement, which you aren't showing here. All you've mentioned is a narrow point of view of what you THINK is going to be presented as refutation of a creator god and expect answer to only that. Buddhism offers MUCH MORE to refute such a claim. If you wish to understand it from a Buddhist's logical pov then you will be better served in reading Buddhist texts on the subject.

A TRUE DEBATE allows for points of rebuttal and challenges. This site provides opportunity for NEITHER.

No. Superstring theory states that the only thing allowed to pass through trillions of miled of lead without the slightest alteration in velocity or direction are the subatomic particles of quarks (the strings). These are so small that they can literally pass right through your head without affecting you or colliding with another atom of you.

Plus, there is no way that an "intelligent being" couls have "created" the universe because the only literal way to have pure energy is to combine antimatter with matter, and that in itself is scarce on just this planet, much less the distant ancient quasars and galaxies. Even is there was pure energy available, in a large quantity, you would have to find something powerful enough, with a conscious mind similar to a human's, as large as 100 trillion trillion times the size of the Sun, to contain it without allowing the slightest leak in energy.

Plus, the evolution of humans from millions of years ago proves existence of animals from before 6,000 years ago.

But if you still don't believe me, then consult an Albert Einstein book (preferrably The Elegant Universe) and read the whole thing yourself. You have to have a good understanding of math to understand the superstring theory.

Yes.

If you see some stones beside the river or fall and it pure oval you will said that it is coincidence. Because stones are there and wash by water so it oval.
But when you go to Hollywood you see there is huge sign it said "HOLLYWOOD". You will not said that is coincidence.

So what is the different? Because there is message in the sign.

The same way while we research the gene in body there are lots of "message" decide a person skin, hair, eye....

Of course we will not said that is coincidence there must be some creator with message for this.

That's why I said God exist.

YES, certainly , not only one planet but MILLIONS of planets with INTELLIGIENT life on them. God is an alien. Just an EXTREMELY intelligent that knows everything about everything. With unlimited time before we existed and unlimted amount of planets (due to space never ending with the whats behind the wall theory? more space) then their is not only a great chance of their been aliens but of god exsisting too.

Example of how big space is:

Imagine a planet with purple dinosaurs on it. They all had too heads and barked like dogs. Sounds crazy but somewhere out there its likely there is. You may think "oh der dats stupid, i cant think into things properly haha stupid dinosaurs". But scientists have proven this, with an UNLIMITED amount of planets there is nearly a 100% chance of ANYTHING you think of been true. Sounds scary but most intelligent people know this if they think about it long enough.

I havn't been to church since i was little and i KNOW scientifically that the chances of there been aliens / god is near 100%
This is why i live happily.
