I am babysitting for a friend of mine. Her girl is 5 weeks old and my son is almost 10 months old. I know that a 5 week old can be pretty demanding, but her daughter sleeps a lot and is a good tempered baby. My son is a pretty good tempered baby as well and has a routine. There's really no problem, but I would like some tips on how to entertain both and still have some down time during the day. I am responsible for Andrea from 9:15 am to about 3:30ish pm. What are some good ways to balance out my day between the two and keep them both thriving?

It's probably hard right now since a 5 week old isn't on much of a schudule, but I am sure your 10 month old is. The good thing about a 5 week old is that they don't do too much except sleep and eat, so you'll probably have some free time when your son naps. At 5 weeks old they don't need to much interaction with toys, etc but they do like to be comforted and held. They probably won't really start interacting well for a few years though because most children don't start to play with others until at least 3. Just get some rest when they are both napping and I am sure you will be fine!

As she puts on weight she will do different things but will not "catch up" with your son until she starts to get good at walking. Oh, boy...then the fun starts...two different directions; holding on to two; his attention will be at doing coloring and she will be still eating the crayons! My grandsons are that far apart and physically the younger is ridiculous and outdoes the brother. They will play independently for a while too..him: cars (lots of space); her: dolls and house (nesting)

I'd just say let them do all your planned activities together. Like in the morning, have them watch TV together and lay out some toys for them to play with. When the 5 mth. old sleeps, your child then might be encouraged to do the same so that you may have some time to yourself.
