If your tooth is dead from trauma or a from having a root canal performed, then this is normal. Anytime the nerve or pulp is removed from a tooth, the blood supply which carries the vital nutrients needed to keep the tooth healthy and white, are gone. The tooth becomes dried out which is why it darkens.

Normal procedure is to put a crown on after the RCT. But since you didn't have this done for some reason, you now have a dark tooth. You still have options! You can talk to your dentist about bleaching the canal treated tooth, this will remove a lot of the gutta perch which is dark or reddish. Then he/she can place a fiber post that is white for added strength. Then use a lighter shade of composite build up material to brighten the tooth, and finish with a full porc crown. Sometimes just the bleaching alone will lighten the tooth, but it dries it out further. The tooth will never look as natural, or be as strong. Adding a post & core build up with a crown will also protect the life and strength of the tooth. Root canal treated teeth have a tendency to break off at the gum line, then your looking at real expense to restore, or having a huge "spit shooter" up front! Sorry, but it does happen! Talk to your dentist, he's got all the answers and he'll be happy to go over all your options to lighten and protect the tooth. Hope I've been of some help to you, good luck!

Tip: If you've considered bleaching all of your teeth you will need to do this before you do the crown, they don't bleach out and they are too expensive to just replace.

if it is completely dead and you still want a front teeth try consider root canal or maybe you ask ur dentist to extract it and make you a prosthesis but if you doesn't want to wear denture then you may try bridge or maybe implants but that's the most expensive...

> when you went to your dentist ask him/her what is the best option for you and also ask him to teach you how to brush you teeth in the right way so that you can also help prevent the decay in you other teeth... because it's so hard if we don't want teeth... we will not enjoy our food, right?

it will eventually turn black because it's dead. You'll probably need to get a veneer or laminate put over it.

Have it removed and replace with a permanent mounted cap. Talk to your dentist. They can provide more info.
