I mean, since so many devoted and pious Christians smoke and drink alcohol (which means that God approves of these addictions), what's wrong with some God-approved dope or weed?

Let us remember that even Jesus Christ made wine (which turned him into a sort of basement-made moonshine pusher, not approved by the ATF). So what's wrong with some home-grown hemp or weed?

I think you are a bit confused.
Becoming a Christian doesn't automatically make one perfect. We are sinners, same as everyone else. That's why we need a Savior.
Because you see a Christian doing something does not automatically mean that God approves of it. Christians have been known to do things that God definitely does NOT approve of...horrible things, even worse than smoking or drinking. (Then again, just because someone calls themselves a Christian doesn't make them one. A Christian is a person who is following Jesus Christ, not just a part of some church social club.)
Another misconception you seem to have made is the notion that, if something is "legal" according to US law, it must be God-approved, or vice-versa. Not so. God certainly doesn't approve of abortion, yet it is "legal". Nor am I sure He is terribly happy about the way we have handled ourselves in Iraq.
Having said all that, I don't see anything anywhere in the Bible that would indicate that God would have a problem with a little home-grown hemp or weed. As long as you don't make getting high the main focus of your life, I doubt He'd have a problem with it.

God doesn't approve of drugs and things that make us "high." As Christians we are to always be alert and fully there. Losing ourselves from use of drugs or alcohol is not what God wants. Yes, some "Christians" drink and smoke. They are either trying to kick the habbit or maybe they only do it a little, and never lose themselves to it, and getting "high."

And about Jesus turning water into wine, He did it for a wedding party, and as I recall, they didn't get drunk and lose themselves. It was wine used to taste and have a small amount of and be merry, not drink a ton and get "high." So in answer to your question, God would not approve of "dope" or "weed."

First of all Jesus made "new wine" which basically is grape juice. And second, just because people who claim to be Christians drink and smoke does not mean that God approves. Christians sin just like everyone else, the only thing that seperates them from non christians is that they are supposedly trying to live like Chirst did while he was on earth.
The Bible says that we should stay away from "strong drink"

The wine Jesus made has no alcohol content.
GOD gave us free will to choose, but we reap what we sow.
Some drugs are helpful for medication but there are more substances that are harmful that definitely won't have GOD's approval.

Sure. As the Apostle Paul clearly stated, "All things are permissable for me, but not all things are beneficial."

God's not at all what people have made him/her out to be... he/she's not about laws, rules, and regulations. He/she is more about free choice. Humans are the ones who keep trying to force others to live as they believe others should live...

When you judge others with sarcasm as you've done in your manner of asking this question, you become part of the problem... you're no better or worse than the rest of us no matter how much you think you might know... (yes... that includes me too!)
