This morning I threw up, and often I feel sick after I work out on the elliptical machine. I am trying to figure out how to prevent this.

For the record: I do not overdo it (I am following a beginners' program), I do not eat beforehand, and I drink plenty of water before and during (It's actually the water that I am throwing up).

The only thing I can think of is that I take my vitamin when I first wake up -- but it's never made me sick before. Should I wait and take my vitamin later? I like to take it early because it gives me energy. Should I eat a small meal or snack before I work out? Any other advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

I would be inclined to believe that it has more to do with the exercise if you are just getting started. Exercise, when done properly, puts the body very close to going into shock just as if it were suffering an injury. This is especially true for beginners, weightlifters, and runners. The surge of endorphins that occur in the early stages of exercise are responsible for the nausea. It will fade over time, like within the first couple of weeks if your exercise is consistent.

Most likely, you are not providing your body with the energy for exercising. Eat a very small meal prior to workout and take your vitamins with food, never on an empty stomach. BTW...vitamins are not an energy pill. They do not provide energy after you take them. They have to build up within the body to provide the nutrient for the body. If you think you are feeling energize after directly taking them, then it's in your frame of mind. Therefore, you can take them later if needed.

Also, though you may feel you aren't over exerting yourself because you are following a beginners program, you could still be over doing it. A single program is not designed for "everyone". You are still required to determine your own fitness level and apply it towards the speed of your workout. Not every beginner is the same.

But start with the meal first. Then see what happens.

I use to get sick when I took my vitamin right after i woke up I found if I ate something it would help. You should eat a small meal before working out. Something with some protein or a shake with protein powder in it. That way you have a little something in your stomach

Have you tried working out at different times of the day? See if this has an effect. Sometimes if my stomach feels really empty before I workout I eat something small like an apple or spoon of Peanut Butter. Peanut Butter is good because it has a lot of protein which gives you energy and its healthy fat.

Hi,

I had the same problem. Its the vitamin going into your empty stomach and upsetting it. Try taking your vitamin after a meal, and hopefully it will solve your problem.

Worked for me.
