You have to cut out bread, rice, potatoes, sugar.... basically anythig white. I did this and lost 10 pounds in two weeks. It's hard though because you end up eating the same things everyday unless you take the time to plan a real menu.

Cutting out carbs entirely is a very bad thing to introduce into your diet. Don't you wonder why you don't see Atkins commercials anymore? It's because in the longterm, people started getting vitamin and nutrient deficiencies from cutting carbs out of their diets. The best thing you can do is to have a balanced work out of cardiovascular and muscular training. Pilates is fun, Yoga, step class is great, and cycling whether stationary or outdoors are all great cardio workouts if putting your foot to the pavement with jogging may be to demanding for a begginer. Weightlifting, resistance training, and things like squats, push ups and ab crunches help for muscle building, and are a great way to burn fat.

You will lose weight fast by cutting out carbs, but that weight will be mostly muscle and not fat, because your muscles have less fuel so they shrink in order to conserve energy, because your muscles are burning evergy all the time, even when you sleep. Losing fat is what you want, not muscle. Oh and eating 3 modestly proportioned meals throughout the day with small snacks in between will help prevent binge eating, or just overeating and cravings for high calorie foods, things people do when very hungry.

The carb diet is tricky, though. Because you'll get major binge cravings and once you go off it, you're chancing the weight coming right back. I'd suggest buying a calorie count book at a local book stores (they run 5 to 10 US dollars) and then just monitor what you eat and try to keep your daily intake under 1800. My doctor put me on this back in December and it's already making a big difference. I'm not craving or binging, and I'm losing weight steadily (about 2 to 3 pounds per week).

I went on the low carb diet and lost 9lbs in a week..The problem that happened to me was that I cut out to many carbs..and became very dizzy and I just was not feeling right..I would ask a nutritionist..You do need some carbs in your diet do not limit all of them..

I read the Curves book and went by their diet and lost about 40 lbs. It was all about cutting carbs.

Things to avoid - rice, potatoes, sweet sugary foods, etc.
Things to stick with - meat, cheese, green veggies (most of them are good for cutting carbs)

Diet sodas are carb free! Woo hoo!

Definately check out the book - it was really easy to follow.

It will help you at first but you will gain wait the second you start eating carbs again. You should eat more fruits and vegetables, more lean protein, more calcium (low fat milk, etc.), and less processed foods.
