This will take some time and training. Our puppy did this when she was younger and here is what our trainer told us to do:
Some tell you to knee the dog down, yell at it, or grab and squeeze the paws. This may be effective for some dogs, but for many, even tho negative, it is still a form of attention.
When the puppy jumps up, say "off" in a stern voice and turn your back on puppy (ignore puppy). When puppy returns to all 4's, turn around, praise and give attention. If puppy jumps up again, repeat this process.
This was very effective for our puppy. They learn that jumping up does not get them the attention they desire and that staying on all 4's will get it. The hardest part about this is getting everyone who comes into contact with your puppy to do the same thing. I have a few friends who were always saying, "oh, it's okay, she's just happy to see me". That's fine for them, but what happens when she does it to someone who doesn't want this to occur? I had to be stubborn and demanding of family and friends that they not encourage the jumping and turn their backs. Everyone has to do it, otherwise, it sends mixed signals to the puppy. I'm sure the strangers who come to my house think I'm crazy for asking them to do it too (like the electrician we had come out last week), but I ask everyone all the same!
It will take some time and persistence to work on this, but it can be trained out. Just remember, never let a jump slide, or get attention. Even ask the strangers on the street to do it if it appears they are going to stop to pay any kind of attention to your dog. This worked perfectly for ours!

There are many different things you can try.
Get a prong collar they are not as awful as they look or sound. You should try it on your own arm if you are worried about the "pain”. The prong collar works the same as mamma dog giving a naughty pup a bite on the shoulder to keep them in check. You need to learn how to use one appropriately, so as your vet or take a training class. You don't want to leave the collar on with out supervision and you only want to pull the leash quickly and release it. When the dog tries to jump give them a quick correction and make a sound like "ah".
You can also work on a skill called leave it. Put a piece of food on the floor and when your dog goes to get it say "Leave it!" don't let your dog take the food off the floor. Instead reward it with a separate piece from your hand. You can practice this with toys, other dogs, cats and people. It is a very useful command when you’re walking your dog and there is a squished critter on the side of the road that they think will make a great toy! You can apply this to people as well.
Also you can suggest that your friends when sensing the dog is going to jump up pull their knee up to their chest (the persons not the dog). You don't need to knee the dog in the chest, you are making some space between you and the dog. Making it more difficult for the dog to get to their face.
Often times a dog jumps to smell your face. This goes back to the pack behavior they want to see what the Alpha dog has found when they were hunting. You can sometimes resolve this issue by bending low to the dog when you great them and allow them to smell your face.
Good luck

When it jumps on you, knee it in the chest and say, "NO! Off!" Or, if it's a big dog, grab it by the paws as it's jumping and hold it up there until you can see that's it's starting to be in pain. We started doing that with our Golden Retriever, but since we haven't been reinforcing it, she's gone into a little relapse.

harnesses only make the problem worse as you have less control of them. A chain around the dogs neck just above the ears always works. a quick tight pull upwards and a firm "NO!" has always worked for me. The only thing you dont want to do, is is make a big deal out ofthe situation as he is probably jumping for attention, and a converstation will give him just this.
Whatever you do, dont walk away from the situation and avoid it all together as this will just make him more hyperactive when people ARE around. I really hope this works!!!!!! =] =]

like when you are on a walk? hold the leash tighter. and when you see someone approaching, tell your puppy to sit. (obviosuly if you have not already, you need to teach this) - and make sure your puppy is sitting when people come up to pet, if the dog starts to job pull him a way for a sec then bring him back, explain to the people wanting to meet your dog that your pupp yis in training, and you want him to sit while being petted.

there are any number of ways to approach this.
namely distracting the dog as people walk by call their name or make a sound to keep your dogs attention away from other people.
another way might be to only pet/pay attention to the dog when they are sitting calmly and behaving.
and finally in that same vein, "clicker training" might also be a good idea just to get the dog some direction.

Lift the legs off of you and say "no leaping" and dance the puppy backwards, while the dog sits, compliment him. He do not need ample leash at this degree to permit him to leap on folks, so do not permit him that so much leash. When my dogs are first little, I train with the leash. In the residence, I drape the leash on them and take a look at to name them to me. Outside, I train in my fenced again backyard for approximately a month earlier than the dog graduates to the avenue. I could drape the leash at the dog and get him to comply with me, or drag the leash at the floor and spot if he's going to comply with me and take a look at to capture the leash. There are many matters in my again backyard that scare a dog, so it's soooo so much simpler to deal with, or proper disorders while I am in my again backyard and no longer within the avenue. We simply stroll laps within the backyard and manage drama because it comes up. Maybe round three-months-historic I could attempt to clip the leash to the collar, but when there's an excessive amount of protesting, I drop the leash. They simply get larger with the leash round four to five-months-historic. So besides, I use the instructions "cross" while I desire to "cross" and if the dog tugs at the leash, I give up and say "wait". It is my stroll and we cross as quick as I can stroll and no quicker. If I desire to "wait" and seem at a flower, difference the batteries in my walkman, depend to 10, then I do it, it's my stroll. When I am able I say "cross" and we "cross" once more. When the dog pulls at the leash, I give up and say "wait" and we give up once more, although we simply went 2 steps. I compliment the dog while he's doing well and speak soothing to him and inspire him while he's doing well, so he maintains doing it. It takes a number of laps of "cross" and "wait" till he settles down, and while the stroll is over, I make a enormous fuss and clap after which they get a few play time. They do not just like the stroll in the beginning, however they prefer the fuss on the finish. I must deal with "cross" and "wait" once more tomorrow, but it surely would possibly not take me as lengthy to get him to have an understanding of what I desire from him. I additionally residence sat a puppy, and the landlord suggestion he had leash disorders, and that puppy simply did not like being in entrance. He walked simply great with my puppies so long as he would be side of the organization, however he did not desire to be within the entrance. If you've a household member, or a neighbor that has a puppy that walks good, see if you'll train with them. I additionally had one puppy that did not just like the maroon leash, or the red one, however did simply great with the blue leash. Sometimes dogs are simply dogs.

teach it the HEEL command,
say HEEL then shorten the lead, remember to praise your pup. eventually your pup will learn what the command means, and will obey without you shortening the lead.
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PRAISE YOUR PUP FOR DOING SOMETHING GOOD,
if you only give your dog attention for bad things, then you will get a naughty pup that just wants attention

there are harnasses you can buy that prevent them from jumping up. they are effective and relatively cheap. We are a pet store but we don't sell them but I would think many do.
