I gotta go with beta fish on this one....simply the fact that it's okay for you to completely dismiss someone elses beliefs (or "facts") and if they do it, they are irrational and obviously uneducated. You are doing the exact thing that you point out SO many christians do. That is the only point I have ever stressed at any aethist vs. christianity question, and yet, it is always simply ignored and another redundant question arises. I will willingly admit to taking a good look at many points that aethists bring up. I am not so fearful and naive to stick my head in the sand and assume that anything contrary to my religious beliefs is evil and wrong. If only you could just stop stereotyping all of us to be like that. I know that many are, and it saddens me. Let me only say that many get defensive because alot of aethists instead of just having a different opinion or bringing a question up for a little debate, make rude remarks about how retarded we are. Now if I brought up a question and then followed it up with
"Take a look at the real world you f*ing idiots! You are all just sheep being brainwashed. You use everything to your advantage and NEVER have real unconditional love for people. You are ALWAYS shoving the bible down everyonese throught, and you are ALL convinced that evolution is evil. You are ALL crazy and stupid"
Change the christian remarks to something about aethists.....how would you react? That is in fact how many people post questions and it's a little sickening. You can get your point across with out looking like a complete jerk. I know not all aethists are like this, but a lot of christians get the wrong idea about them because of things like this; just like aethist can get the wrong idea about christians because they write dumb stuff somethings. Just try to see it goes both ways.......and it's not okay to be so hypocritical

Personally, I agree with the bible when it says that only a fool says that there is no God. The existence of a Surpreme Being that is higher than ouselves is all around us.....we especially see evidence of this in nature, and how our brains function. Those attributes ARE NOT man-made entities of this world. So with that, atheists have some strong arguements that may seem logical, but it just doesnt explain the moral conscience that is inside EVERY human being.

Actually, yes. Not many, but some. The problem with them, though, is that what they're usually arguing against is *stupid and ignorant* fornication. See, an argument that sex with multiple partners before marriage *with no thought to pregnancy and/or disease prevention" does have merit. But with a tiny bit of education, and just a modicum of common sense, their arguments fall apart. So it's somewhat ironic that their few valid arguments are really arguments against the kind of "fornication" that their ignorant, uneducated and careless kids would have, not what reasonable people would :) Peace.

Sure, all the time. It doesn't make my own arguments less logical though. An argument can sound perfectly logical and still not be correct, or even persuasive.
What do atheists think when a Christian states that he has seen irrefutable evidence in his own life that God exists? Do you just assume he is lying or incapable of rational thought?
EDIT: So...it's not ok for Christians to dismiss another viewpoint...but it's ok for atheists to do so? Hmmm...

I think a lot of Atheists arguments are logical, but often times, just incomplete. Like, it's logical to think that if there is a God, that He isn't loving because of all the pain and suffering in the world, however it is incomplete because they aren't considering the other ideas...like, we have free will and there is also Satan who tempts us to do evil... and ideas like that. What would be illogical is if they can understand this concept and yet still think God would have to stop every bad thing from happening to be considered "loving". Atheistic arguments almost always have logical beginnings, its just that usually they wont consider the reasons behind why God does what He does that makes their arguments become illogical.

Sure, I hear atheist with some pretty intelligent arguments. But God is still always the answer in my book. For example, yes, science is great, interesting, and useful, but no, I don't think that the intricacy of the world was started by a single cell, or a giant explosion. Scientists have yet to find the skeletons that actually "prove" that evolution is correct, because there is always a missing link. Some intelligent being HAD to create science. Science doesn't prove that God doesn't exist, science proves God's existence.

I understand all atheist's arguments, because I, too, was once atheist.
So, when I hear an argumentative issue, I think. I remember that.

I have a feeling that a lot of them are more impressed with the evidence and arguments for evolution than they let on.

I do not have a negative thought about it at all. many times non Christians have wonderful insight that helps me strengthen my beliefs. all Christians are not ignorant people that believe only one way, most use any information they can to search deeper.

I am pretty sure there is a jamming mechanism that is implanted into Christians ears that either blurs their vision or scrambles their hearing any time that rational thought or logic is detected. No wonder they think WERE wackos
