Benzene is a constituent of gasoline like several other compounds. Benzene just happens to be a regulated carcinogen that can contaminate air, soil, or groundwater if it is released.

The octane number increases. Also, benzene, like all aromatic hydrocarbons, tends to burn less cleanly than paraffins.

it all burns,the danger to benzene is like washing your hands in it to remove dirt and grease. Not good but after it Burns not a problem.
