I have a HP phostosmart 8150, its prints beautifully, I use it in my studio instead of sending them to a lab. They don't make that particular model anymore but you can probably find a refurbished one for about $100.00. DO NOT get a ALL in ONE, if you're looking for the professional look. You also wanna get one that has at least a 6 ink jet coloring system. I say HP is the way to go.You also want to get one that prints more than your standard 4x6 photos, my 8150 prints up to 8x10

I love my Epson Stylus Photo RX620, available direct from Epson for $129.99. It's also an EXCELLENT flat bed scanner. I've owned one HP and one Canon and one other not worth mentioning prior to this and, although the others were supposed to be "photo" printers, there is little basis for comparison.

Perhaps you do not have your printer driver set up correctly. Perhaps you are just clicking on "Print" and accepting all the preseet parameters without changing anything for photo printing. Perhaps you are not using photo paper. It makes a huge difference. I have found that Epson papers are a good match for the Epson inks, also. I used to use a "major brand" in a yellow box that looked decent on my HP, but it just didn't "sizzle" like the Epson papers do in the Epson printer.

When you click on "Print" and you get a window with a button that says, "Properties," click on that button before you proceed.

At the top, select "Best Photo." In the middle, drop down the list and select the type of photo paper you are using. If you are not using Epson paper, just choose the quality that comes closest to describing your paper. Most papers have a chart in the box telling you what to select for various printers. Next, click on "Advanced." On this page, I recommend that you uncheck the boxes for "High Speed" and "Edge Smoothing."

If you do all this and still don't like your Epson printer, maybe it's time to try a different brand after all.

My kids got me a HP C3150 for Christmas. It is an all in one. It was only about $100 at Sam's Club, but I had to buy the optional photo cartridge ($25). It prints great 8 X 10s from my Cannon 20D - 8.2 mega pixels. If you haven't already, you might want to look in to the printing options of your Epson, as they make good stuff too. You need to select the best quality printing option for photo paper.

I just bought a HP Photosmart 4130 and the photo quality is amazing - as good if not better than if I had them printed professionally. I am very impressed.
Depends on what you call too expensive - mine was £80 (about $160) but it's an all in one, so I get a printer, scanner and photocopier into the bargain.

Well, the mega pixels won't really matter if you don't have enough DPIs in the printer (dots per inch)! For the most part, the DPIs have not yet caught up the the mega pixel capabilities.

We have an HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One and love it! It's easy to use, prints wonderfully, and is reliable!
