From the link:
Jelly, jam and preserves are all made from fruit mixed with sugar and pectin. The difference between them comes in the form that the fruit takes.

In jelly, the fruit comes in the form of fruit juice.
In jam, the fruit comes in the form of fruit pulp or crushed fruit (and is less stiff than jelly as a result).
In preserves, the fruit comes in the form of chunks in a syrup or a jam.
Pectin is an undigestible carbohydrate (fiber). It is found in the cell walls of most fruit. When heated with sugar in water, it gels, giving jam, jelly and preserves their thickness.

Healthier? Depending on the form of the fruit used to begin with, the one that utilizes the ingredient in as close to natural form should be healthiest (jam better than jelly) although only marginally.

They are both the same - fruit preserves. Jelly is the US term for what is known in the UK as jam. In the UK a fruit preserve termed a jelly will have seived fruit, so will be usually be clear with no lumps.

As they are full of sugar, neither is particularly healthy, but the high fruit ones are a lovely treat in small amounts.

Jelly is also a term for a fruit dessert made with gelatine, which is often a reasonable option for slimmers.

Jam is made from real fruit. Jelly is made with fruit juice and artificial flavors. Jam is better if you get a low sugar or naturally sweetened one. But both are very high in sugars.

When I make toast I usually just use butter and eat it that way but when I do get the taste to use jelly as well I do it how you stated. The butter first and than the jelly.

It's not a big mystery.
See below: Dictionary definition.

********************************
Jam (also known as jelly or conserves) is a type of sweet spread or condiment made with fruits or sometimes vegtables, sugar and sometimes thickened with pectin if the fruit's natural pectin is insufficient to produce a thickened product.
In terms of which is good for you?---neither. They are all sugar, hence all fat fat.
