If anyone can help me, great.. I got my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice in December and am in to get my Master's degree and will have it by the summer. I want to work in the internet investigations, catching online predators, other stuff like that. How does one get into that field? Private investigator, something like that? I am trying to network but nobody knows how to get into that field, since it could be a Law Enforcement specialty or special operations field.

Computer forensics. Walsh College in Michigan has an excellent program, and it has also received federal funding for these specialists, which means that it is free to those who are accepted.

Many law enforcement agencies have divisions that deal with internet crime, including local police. I would call recruiters for the departments that are located in the places you'd like to live, and see what their internet crimes divisions are like and find out who the youngest officers/agents are that are in those divisions and what kind of experience they have. See if they'll talk to you about their experience joining up.

As for sex predators, law enforcement doesn't devote a lot of resources to actually hunting them down anymore. They get so much volunteer help from private citizens that it would be a waste of money. Now, law enforcement mostly just helps pick up the predators in the sting.

You can call Americas Most wanted for info, or the producers at Dateline NBC might be able to help you. I wouldn't tell them that you are getting a Masters Degree (which takes 2 years plus a thesis) in 6 months though. It kind of kills your credibility.

We have a cyber crimes unit that deal with the things you mention. You have to be a police officer to do it though. You start in general patrol first and then apply to the unit as positions open up. It is possible that some police services hire civilians to do this but not around here (city in Ontario Canada).

i saw a programme on this, police officers in chat rooms pretenting to be young boys and girls. I think you would have to apply through, the police. or inteligence agencies

THINK TALKING TO THE POLICE WOULD BE YOU BEST BET TO GET STARTED.
