I am normally a very laid back and easy going person. Since the new year I have been working out 3 or 4 times a week. I have noticed that I have been more aggressive and quick to anger since I have been working out. I thought that exercise helps reduce stress levels, but I seem to be getting angrier. Has anyone else had an experience like this, or is there an explanation?

Thanks for everyone's answers!! And alan, I must agree with your answer. I do tend to think of the things in my life that make me mad to keep me going when my inherent "give up attitude" rears its ugly head. Maybe I'll quit doing that and think of other more pleasant things instead.
Also thanks to PHAROAH for suggesting I channel my new found power. I'll try that.
And thanks to Selva for letting me know that this is a "normal abnormality" and why. That makes me feel better!!!

Exercise will reduce stress, but it will also naturally increase the bodies level of testosterone. You might try to end your workout sessions with some breathing/stretching to help calm. But the aggression could also come form your new found motivation.

As long as you keeep it under control agression can be a very good thing. Its a great motivator!

hi renner,
i guess i had experience about this matter.
having some exercise made me happier and self-confident , and really reduced stress levels 4 me , just concentrate on the exercises that ex-charge ur -ve chargers not exercises that charges you with such charges.
and try to make the time of exercises free of any bad thoughts or life stresses
and i believe u will feel better.

This is a normal abnormality....and it is temporary.

There are numerous factors responsible for that new mind set .

Keep at it you will emerge out of this state quite soon. Of course if there is no other factor making you irritable.

It is usually due to hormonal e,g. adrenaline, andorphins and cortisol etc changes. Other changes responsible for it is the increase in metabolic rate with its metabolites e.g. lactic acid..

Best of luck

While you're exercising, do you keep thinking when will I change, when will it change? Maybe you want fast results, I don't know.
I know when I exercise, I want to punch things to keep the excitment going. I feel stronger and feel the need to release this energy. To test things out.
Though, I don't get angry.

Yes, I also notice that when I exercise regularly, lust and aggression do increase in my innate behavior. I figure it's simply the testosterone involved with the muscle growth.

Sometimes supplements cause that. Otherwise, If you're a male it's probably elevated testosterone.
