Autos: To keep you from 1. being ejected from the vehicle in a crash and 2. from slamming into the windshield or dashboard.

airplanes: To keep you from flying around the cabin in the event of severe turbulence. They don't help much if the plane crashes.

Amusement Park: To keep you from flying out of the car/cart.
